Title: Poulan 3300, inheritaed sorta running
Post by: Top Shot on September 10, 2014, 09:38:35 pm
Hey guys my father-in-law past away recently and in his last will and wishes left me his lifetime collection of tools. Among everything is a type 1 3300. I couldn't say how long it has been sense it has run. but I took it down and cleaned it up the carb looked pristine, changed the spark plug. the tank was bone dry so I filled it with fuel and pulled and pulled and pulled with no luck. I put gas directly down the carb and whammo tried to fire up, little more fuel and it started right up for a few seconds. The problem its not picking up fuel is what I have come to the conclusion of. Is this likely my issue? and if so what is the solution ? new fuel lines? is there a way to prime the system?  BTW so glad I found this forum seems to be a great group and a wealth of knowledge. Thanks Jason

Above plus.

Replace impulse line and check intake boot for cracks and tears too.
 Tank vent line also.

impulse line get the black echo fuel line here.  Also sells tygon fuel line.   Plus other chainsaw stuff. Fast service.   http://www.northwoodsaw.com/store/

if above dont have right carb kit. I use mowers4u for carb kits etc.  http://www.mowers4u.com/

Get the name and number off the carb and and you should bet able to get a kit from any where.
On one side of the carb is a fuel pump diaphragm and on the the side of the carb is the metering diaphragm.   They are pulsed by the impulse line that is referred to.
These diaphragms can become stiff and that is why it is no longer pumping fuel to the carb.

Like every one has mentioned replace fuel filter and fuel lines.

Welcome.

Dads not pulling fuel. Last time I did my dads 3300 it was because the intake boot was tore. Time before that it was the impulse line.  Might not even be the carb kit. But cheap and easy to do.
