Title: Leaking fuel - 55
Post by: winland on September 13, 2014, 10:57:37 am
Picked up my 55 this morning to go buck a few logs.
Filled it up with mix, put the cap back on and saw a puddle of fuel mix on the ground.
Picked up the saw and the leaking stopped.
Only leaking when lying on the clutch side.
Took a quick look at the carb and fuel lines, not leaking from there.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chuck

When I look at the tank vent, I do not see the little white plug.
How do you remove the vent, does it just pull out or does it unscrew/twist out?

A small magnet might pop the whole thing out to clean it and put new discs in.

Not sure about the magnet, IME the vent body is plastic and so is the little white puck.

I think the older ones on the bigger saws were metal. Maybe not. I have used a small pick and got the discs out.

IIRC if the vent assembly pushes out from the inside it is all plastic, including the 'white' disc which is pressed into the end of the black tube. I have seen the expanded bronze ones you speak of though on 288s ans such.

I thought the 394 one was some form of metal. I've changed several of them out lately.

Is it leaking because the little white disc is missing?

The tank vent on my 350 kept falling out so the last time I put one in I used some gasket cement on it and glued it in... Still there through 5 or 6 tanks of fuel and no leaks..
