Title: New stihl top handle saw
Post by: Cut4fun . on September 27, 2014, 11:21:33 am
Bye bye 201.  ;)

copy paste info below.

(((((During the photo shoot with Stihl some guy asked about the 201T and what the plans were with all the feedback from that saw. He was told by a Stihl rep that they're scrapping the 201T and there is another saw coming out that will replace that model. It will have the electronic fuel and carb adjustment that the new saws have as well as some other new features and improvements. Does anybody have any other information on it. I'm not sure if it's still in R&D or if there are demos out there.)))))

The first gen. 201t had a lot of shortcomings IMHO.
Creating a factory "hop up kit" to remedy these issues and then charge top dollar for that kit was a slap in the face to loyal stihl consumers.

Early 1990 Toyota 4x4 truck I had with the 3.0 v6 developed a head gasket leak at well over 150k. Took it to the dealer expecting to pay dearly for the repair and Toyota picked up the bill!  It was a know issue/recall item and regardless of miles and being the second owner they took care of it.

Thats unreal for that Toyota story Adam.

I have had several recalls that my envoy was over the "thinking" 10year 100K limit on. Then there were some that had to be done within 2-3 years of the recall. If I never receive them how you suppose to know.

Seems kinda weird they'd release the hop up kit for retrofit on older saws then incorporate those parts into the new saws. The poor low speed/long warm up period is a pain.  Grabbed one of my guys 201 last week to help remove an oak limb over a slate roof from the bucket truck and that saw was a pain. Granted the limb removal took time to rig and the saw never really got warm, it was annoying.

No idea about this but the next Stihl top handle to be released wont have a carburetor.

Now this might sound silly but I wonder if the 441 and the 201T would have had better performance if by some way they could have pre heated the fresh air partial transfer charge .Every one I ever ran did okay after it got plenty warmed up .Now that's a pain in the azz having to run the danged thing a couple minutes to get it to run right .

It's not a new idea at all .Caterpiller did it on the old pony start diesels .Ran the pony engine exhaust right through the diesel intake manifold .Warmed the air.Be kind of  tough to do on a chainsaw but I bet it could be done, just  for the fresh air part .Not the fuel /air part .

Al, the newest 201 is supposed to be much better, perhaps they  tweaked the advance/retard bit?  All of the T540 huskies I've demo'd over the Last year or so ran like crap until hot.  Just put together a ms200t for a friend and they one of Stihls all time best saws IMO.

Forgot about those.   I like they are moving ahead with this technology.

Husky has a TH and Oregon told me they had TH in the works when I tested their rear handle one out.

Dealer is getting in 10 of the lithium ion Husky top handle saws plus a demo saw. Gonna try it out for a day or two and see if it might work out for pruning jobs.

I'd have to agree with the 020/200T .In the over all scheme of things no more than they would sell of this model I wonder why they felt it neccesary to go to the EPA mandated systems on trim saws .Unless they were forced to I suppose .
