Just had a super nice 1 owner stihl 034 super dropped off. Friend from work bought new (wish I would have ask what year). Says it is getting harder and harder to pull over. :-\
Will get some pics and hopefully more info on a quick look over.

Pull the starter and look at the pulley?
Rope my be small and pulling through itself?
Pulley pivot shaft hole may be large and the pulley getting off to one side? A dead give away would be the cone shield that matches the flywheel will be worn out.

To easy. Pulley busted. Choke not closing due to the on/off switch spring sprung. Think I got the spring and switch part. need to order the other stuff.

Due to the fact it's a super it's an 036 in different clothes .Change the rope drum,gut the muffler ,good to go.---says the guy with one sitting on a table saw for the last 6 months waiting for some attention ---- ;D

Weird thing on the media cat info. It list 2 pulleys for 034 etc, one Brazil only and other. 2 different recoils etc. Going by IPL I would swear this one Brazil.
How can I find where made on saw?

Glance over to the 036 and see what it says? They are both the same series

Yep it said for early 034. I'm clueless so I pulled the part to make sure.
I ordered OEM for same cost of aftermarket. Stihl 024, 026, 028, 240, 260 and the early style 034 036 chainsaw

Forgot to ask him while talking about saw when he bought it. But said he bets only 100 hrs with of use on it so far.

It's hard to say what broke the drum.Things happen .

Probably around the mid 90's? First made 1993 and by the late 90's the top label would have been plastic.

Most any fire wood guy would be proud to own that saw.

This one has METAL riveted on tag on cover. Also the older style caps fuel and oil.

Stihl for some reason had different name tags .Mine is also made in Germany but says 034 AV .However the bore measures out to be a super .
By the same token one of my 038 Mags only says 038 AV ,German also .I know for a fact the cylinder was never changed because the guy who gave it to me had owned it since new .Unless the plastic was changed but I rather doubt it .

This dont mean year of saw. But owner said he bought it in summer 90 or 91.
Now if his memory is like mine who knows for sure.

Wow look what I found, straight off stihl production time line and site.
1990 – Production of chain saw models 034, 034S, 021 and 023 begins in Virginia Beach.
Now remember this one is West Germany made.

Have to check on chainsaws. But other stuff seemed to start early. Dont know when the 009 010 011 012 started being built there (guessing 78-82 only a WAG). But....1986 – One-millionth 1120 series chain saw produced in Virginia Beach.
1987 – Production of 024 chain saw moved to Virginia Beach.

Parts came in Fri and Sat. So all done and tested out today. Carb tuned etc.
Set her nice and fat in 12.5K range. Cleans up nice in cut.
I noticed his mix smokes till warm, something I havent seen in awhile and is red red red mix. Guessing echo dino oil? Till I can talk to him Tues I wont know.
Noticed the flocked filter starting to lose some flocking. So I am going to be in a search for replacement for him in the future. Can they be bought new still or NLA for this saw.

If I recall correctly that 034 you got from me had an OEM filter that I bought from a dealer .BTW don't waste your time buying Stihl parts from Baileys ,tried that .First it was the wrong filter plus a couple bucks higher than the dealer plus I had to pay shipping .Learned my lesson on that one .

I dont buy crap from baileys anymore. Learned that a few years ago myself.

I haven't been fouled up by Bailey's but I've heard enough from others to head the advice.

You know you dont charge enough labor rate when guy gets the final bill. The shocked look isnt a pizzed off one, it is sort of I cant believe its that cheap shocked look. :o ;D
Guy gave me $13 tip over bill on this saw when just picked up. Can you say beer money. :D

I had a guy do the same thing on a 49 cc Jred ,forgot the number .I figured 25 plus 5 for the carb kit.He gave me 50 .What,took me all of 15 minutes but thanks . ;D

"West" Germany ended in October of 1990. Could they possibly have labeled saws as being made there after the fact?
My 066 Mag was made in West Germany.

June 21st, 1995 - TI 28.95 - modified tank housing and tank vent, new muffler, retainers for fuel and oil caps, flywheels and heating elements for heated model
July 7th, 1995 - TI 30.95 - new decomp cylinder, compensating air filter, air filter carburetor, carb box, shroud, tank housing, spark plug terminal
T.16.87 - new Super 034, new cylinder, crankshaft, piston, crankcase, carb, etc, many changes for new model.
T.7.87 - new handlebar strengthener, flywheel, clutch springs, oil pump, other minor changes
T.45.86 - heating system changes, new clutch washer versions, new impulse line
T.39.86 - new oil pump worm spring, oil pump hose sleeve, winter shroud, rope rotor, longer muffler mounting screws
T.35.84 (T.28.84) - 13 page intro to 034 chainsaw and series 1125
T.30.85 (T.31.85) - new shroud for carb preheating shutter, new AV buffers, new impulse line, new carburetor parts and jet size

Stihl 034 super West Germany back in. He thinks it was bought 1990 for just hair under $600.
Only 2nd time serviced and both by me.
He guesses 50-100 hrs max of cutting.
Updated to 2 pawls with new clip and the stihl rescue handle for him.
Last time was just a pulley and pawl back in 2014. Why I try and save info.

Hated seeing this one get hurt. Bought new by owner. Stihl 034 super. He is in his 70’s climbing in tree. Dropped it.
Going to need air filter.
Told him sealall the hole and others for now.
So she has some dings and duct taped af cover. Metal plate took a dent or 2.
Found new OEM air filter and ordered.
He runs 325 063 74dl since it was new. Ordered some chain.
