I'd like to know  what a 38cc saw was used for with bow. The bigger cc ones I understand. But top handle 38cc?

Welcome and Glad you made it.

I used to be in the Hampton area. As Navy dependent and when I was in USAF. Had a friend in Richmond.

I really can't answer that one. I'm pretty sure?? a bow wasn't offered on these saws back in the day, but it is an OE poulan bow and it is a perfect fit. Not sure what other poulan saws had the same bar configuration, so this 11 inch bow may have fit other small saws with a few more cc's. I had just heard that Poulan had made a bow to fit these saws, I found one, and it's cute when displayed with my larger bowsaws. Someone else may have more insight on this than I.

halftime break.

I understand you doing yours for show. But it has that small mount and I have seen small stihls with bows before too. So it had me wondering their use.

I've never seen a plunge bow on a saw that small.  Seen pics of a small brush bow on a S25 before.

That must be what I saw on the little stihl. Bar narrower?

Yep.  Brush (AKA clearing) bows are generally long and narrow.  They have a smaller 'plunge' section on the front, and often don't have guards.

That's actually a small plunge bow.  Plunge bows have a large, often 'flat' section in the front.  They usually have a top guard, and sometimes have  a bottom guard as well.

Yeah that isnt the narrow bar I wanted to show. Got side tracked with other work.   Just the same size small saw.

It was one like this on a small saw.

Did you paint the bar?  If so what color and what did you use.  Might need to add to the green thread here.

All I did is bolt it on once I got it. I restored a 245A bowsaw a while back, but I couldn't tell you what color paint I used because I took a sidecover to an automotive paint store and they trial and error mixed a quart of paint for me. It was close but not dead on. It looks pretty much like the bow on this saw, not quite LIME enough.

I found a place to order a bow bar for the small Poulan but they want lots of money for one. I talked to them and they sell a lot of the small bows to Christmas tree farms. IIRC it was around $300-350
