Title: my testing/findings with 100LL Av gas

First the non alcohol 90 octane around here is vary inconsistent and burns dirty and $4.09 a gal.
after reading in many post all over the net of people using 100LL I thought I would look into it. I found it at my local small airport at only $4.35 a gal. not much over the pump non alcohol. so i got a few gallons and started using it in my echo lawn equipment mixed with klotz supertech at 36:1

my main test subject was my echo PB-200 blower it was just disassembled and cleaned of all carbon removed base gasket which basically ported the transfers and reduced the squish to .023 only other mod was muffler to breath better

Finding are first everything runs better

after a gallon threw the blower run wide open for about 20mins at a time on jobs everything is still vary clean piston  crown is nice and clean plug is clean only light brown to gray exhaust port is clean as well. so far a winner to me

other pluses to the 100ll is will last at least a year or more with out going bad wont varnish carbs and is always consistent

Just thought I would share and would like tyo know if anyone else has tried it...

Good report.

Automobile pump gas in some areas is just terrible. So 100LL might be a good alternative? At the local airport it is currently $6.31 + 7% sales tax.

I've been fortunate with the regular 10% ethanol pump gas with no problems in my area. I've lived other areas and things were not so good.

I've been using 100LL for years with no problems at all.
Those that want to try it need to know how to tune your carb
as it will run a tad richer. The big benifit for me is the lack of
ethanol and the shelf life. Talked to a couple small airplane
techs and asked about how long is it good for before going
bad. There reply was never. It has an endless shelf life. After
time the gas may go darker in the blue color as some of the
gas will evaporate but leaves the dye behind.
The only issue i have had is if a saw sits on the shelf for a few
months, years etc. When you go to start it it may not pull the
gas through the carb. What i've seen is after time the gas will
evaporate and leave the oil behind in the carb. More prone on
rich gas oil mixes. I prime the saw down the carb throat with mix
and start the saw. Once it runs i choke it with my hand or a piece
of carb board so no air can get though. It may take a couple few
times but it will start to pull gas on it's own and run normal.
At my local airport the price is in the 6.30 range per gallon.
Lot cheaper than race gas or SEF.

Great thread, timing sucks for me, I just bought 55 gals of the 90 octane "recreational" fuel @ $4.75 a gallon. I was hoping for better shelf life and to get away from the "jello" the standard ethanol fuel leaves behind. I didnt buy it just for the saws, but mostly for the saws. I have a handful of other small engines that dont see allot of use. I still run pump gas in my riding mower, only because I move about 120 gallons through it each year, at the end of the year, I run some recreational fuel through it to store it.

Im going to have to check into pricing at my local airport. Its just up the road from me, and a 1/3rd the drive to buy the rec fuel !
