Post by: Cut4fun . on November 23, 2014, 12:01:21 pm
By looks only what is your choice by looks. 550 with silver or all orange 545

I think the 545 looks better but I like both of those particular saws very much.

All orange.  To be honest, I don't much like the look of these latest 5-series Husqvarnas (including the bigger saws such as the 562XP).  To my eye, they look like somebody 'squished' the front end of a 576XP before remounting the chainbrake lever....8)

I like the shape of them, looks fast and nimble, which they also are!  ;D

However, I don't really like the "silver" paint, but it doesn't really bother me either.

545 550 feel so sweet and balanced in the hands. The AV and handling  IMO is way better then 346.  All JMO and likes.

One thing I don't like about these two is that when you set them down, they tend to want to roll over onto the chain side. The 346 is a little this way.

It is a pain to remove/replace (especially replace) the B&C but the outboard clutch allows them to be much slimmer and lighter.

I have a Dolmar 5105 with a inboard clutch. It is very easy to remove/replace the B&C. But the 5105 when you add up the width of the inboard clutch and the wrap spring start assist on the starter, they are very wide especially when set close to my 545 or 550XP.

Husky is the only major brand that make decent handling 50 and 60cc saws by now, and has been for a while!  ;D

Your issue with changing B&C (and sprocket rims) just is a matter of habit. ;)

The 545 is a nice saw at a great pricepoint from some of our friendly dealers.  Even at retail it is a very good value.  A buddy of mine bought himself one and I thought it ran quite nicely.  I hooked him up with a nice 13" bar/chain setup and he is sold on the short bar scalpel saw setup.  I'm impressed with it and think it is a good evolution.

I'm not a fan of this two-tone crap, but unfortunately it is the only way to get a -g model.  Very disappointed with that.

I like em both.  Full wrap on 562 saves the paint.  Price wise I'd probably go 545.  From what I hear not much diff in power.

I like the 545. and the orange stays in place unlike the silver stuff husky calls paint. pay for a top quality saw, one should get top quality paint on it.

The orange paint on Husky saws is a very hard, durable paint. Probably a powder coat.
The silver paint is like a rattle can paint, it rubs off pretty easy. Would interesting to hear the why & how this is...

Guess I'm in the minority,  but I like the 2 tone look better.  8)
