Title: Stihl 031 coil rebuild/modify
Post by: geoday69 on November 25, 2014, 05:24:13 pm
Has anyone used the service on e-bay to rebuild a coil and add a trigger/condenser on an 031av Stihl. The charge is $80.00 and guarantees to fix ignition/coil problems?

I had one of these old points type 031's for 4 or 5 yrs but never had any trouble with it.

Some of those points eliminating set ups require re-timing of the flywheel?

I just put a Nova II chip on my 031 to replace points and condenser.  Haven't quite got it buttoned up yet but fired on fuel in the plug hole, something it did do before. Chip was under $20.00 on feebay.

The 031 and its points type ignition system has gotten much fanfare in the forums.

Some of the problems with the ignition eliminators has been a requirement to hook them up reversed and that the electronic flywheel has different timing from the original points type flywheel.
