Title: Poulan 3816
Post by: Cut4fun . on December 16, 2014, 06:03:19 pm
Poulan 3816 came in today. Hard to start wont stay running was complaints.

Says 38cc on recoil and clutch cover but model sticker on back says 42cc class.

Well after a quick look. Fuel filter had come off. Fuel line still good not crumbling like most oem line.  Trimmed line.

Then started it and carb was way off from factory IMO.  So worked on the L H I. Good to go.

I also pointed out how the chain was sagging. There was no chain tensioner in the cover and not a intenz bar.  :-X

This is all while owner and friend was here and we shooting the BS etc.

Well then I noticed no bar oil coming out.  So I pull cap and its full.  :'(

I said you want to leave it or wait.  Because this will depend on some things.  They departed.

I took a break. Being I wanted to know. I checked all tubes for blockage from tank out. Then pulled oiler and seen right away the plastic gear was shot.
I tried something with another new oiler for older poulan before strato. I pulled the 2 pics and removed the parts and tried to install in the strato poulan oiler. Installed everything back in the 3816 and it was a no go. Parts to the plastic gear shaft are just enough different it wouldnt work.  So much for my redneck idea. :P

Took pics will download and show later.

oiler on the strato on LEFT the earlier non-strato poulan one on RIGHT.

Put the chain DL sticker on the recoil for reminder I guess.

Oil pump came in today. Installed and put a new worm gear too just in case.

Works great and even test and tuned on limbs while feeding the bonfire today.

I switched out a new 16" intenz bar for the 16" newer regular bar for free.   Owner didnt want to buy a new bar and was undecided about buying a tensioner for clutch cover.  So I told him what I would do for him.
