Title: Husky 435-440 Rim Sprocket
Post by: farmboy on January 10, 2015, 08:19:07 am
Want to put a rim sprocket on my 435 haven't come up with any PN's to convert it.  Is it doable?

Use 346 parts?

The shape of the indention in the plastic worn gears is different but the 440 worm should work with the 346 rim hub.

The reason I say this is that I changed the clutch on my 346 from the small rim 346 to the large rim 357 and the oiler still works just fine.

Not doable Shep. The clutch/drum on the 435/440 is a good deal smaller in diameter than the 346/350 and 445/450.

It would be interesting to find a way to "upgrade" a 440's (435) clutch. Seems to me that the clutch is the weak link in the chain to building more performance into that little saw chassis.

First problem is it's got a real small crank end, so no 346 etc clutches will screw onto the end of the shaft. And if we found one, it couldn't be a larger diameter cause you wouldn't be able to put the side cover on. And it would no longer be in balance with the flywheel either. Decent little saw, but IMO not worth the effort to solve these riddles.

You went and muff modded yours, and it now has more power than that poor little clutch can handle!

Thanks! I prefer a rim sprocket over spur when I can.  Thanks again for the info.  MM'd mine too awesome little saw for the money.  SIL is running mine right now and he was/is impressed with the power/handling.
