Title: New Stihl Piston pricing.
Post by: bloodontheice on January 21, 2015, 10:30:30 am
Just ordered some pistons from Stihl and the prices are dramatically cheaper.
It may be across the board but I checked the 026, 034, 029, 044, 046, 066
and they're all $40-50 retail price for OEM piston and rings kits.

I noticed that.  Some pistons with rings are less expensive than rings alone.

Quite a few price changes across the board, might put a hurting on AM.

  Take care, Larry.  HOS

  Hey Guys,

MS 660 piston in my hand.   "K" with "S" molded into inside of piston.

Piston with rings, less expensive than rings alone.  $43.49 list for piston kit, $24.49 each, for rings.

I have a feeling prices will be readjusted before long.

  Take care, Larry.  HOS    Platinum

That's not a bad thing. I might consider oem pistons for those prices.

Hmmmm I might pull my generic 066 piston out of my wild thing 505.
I was just going to do caber rings or meteor kit. But if OEM is going to get in the game  cost wise I will go that route. If my dealer gives that good of price.

;D I have been very pleasantly surprised at the stihl shop tool
prices whereas the seal puller kits were in the 280, Canadian
but stihl purchased their supplier and I got a nwe one for 93,00
with 7 sts of legs . A flywheel puller that fits on 11 different models
was all of 12 bucks

The 064 is Stihl  $114, but the 660 piston is $51 retail.

But an 084 and 088 pistons are now $58, and ones for new saws like the 261 and 661 etc are under $50 also.

Especially for the 660. Meteor 660 pistons need some work on the windows.

I got a 046 piston on the way. Will update when in hands. Couldnt pass up OEM for $46.

Need to grab a 066 since their down. Hope they drop the 064 down.
Then maybe a 044. But waiting to see what I end up with for the cylinder 10mm or a 12mm.

They had to order it. I got a call back today about confirmation that they were ordering the right one, they wanted the serial # of the saw. I gave them the #and they said they would get it ordered. Now I am wondering if the person I spoke to yesterday had a clue and if he gave me the right figure.

"I noticed that.  Some pistons with rings are less expensive than rings alone.

   Howdy,
Believe me, the prices wouldn't be coming down unless the AM's were putting the hurt on them. It's going to be a double edge sword for Stihl. For people new in the business it'll seem great but, the guys who've been towing the Stihl line for a while are going to know then been taking the bone all along. Did you ever wonder why they've advertised having 8000 dealers for the last 20 years? It was either BS then, BS now, or BS all along.
Regards
Gregg

Yeah its hurting dealers who stock lots of parts at the old prices big time. The distributor should be eating some of that cost for them.

I dont know what they did for the dealers but it definately discourages dealers from stocking parts and that is the exact opposite of what you want

I guess I'm lucky in that respect because the Stihl dealer I do buisness with orders twice a week .The jober is in Cincinnati.I seldom have to wait over 3 or 4 days for parts not in stock .

OFF TOPIC = Art is performance car parts up that way still like 3 times the price compared to here. In the later 80's I used to run car parts up that way across the border and friends would drive a van down sometimes and load it up to save $$$$.

Say a intake was a $100 here be almost $300 there.  Just wonder if that stuff has evened out now like stihl saws have.

Car parts in my area are high. Pays to shop around. I can buy online from Ontario for about 1/2 of the cost here. Just priced a set of AM 5 inch tube side bars for my F150 locally. $950 tax in.

I couldnt imagine how high in your area then. I was taking parts to Kitchener Ontario and I thought they were ridiculous.

Kev, what did you think of the rubber quality?

I thought it was fine for my uses and firewood cutters saw I put it on. I would use them again.
Now yours will be used by tree crews yanking the chit out of them if stuck in the cuts. I'd say it would be a good test.

Buy one and compare and let us know. You know way more about this stuff then I ever will.

Be worth a try considering the cost difference.  Was shocked at the Boot price from Stihl. I'll order one of the AM pieces and try it on a ms460 I'm rebuilding.

Just read this and had to save.

Stihl 200T  oem $27 piston kit

$22 for the pair of rings.
So  asked how much for the piston kit.....here's where it gets funny....yup $27 bucks for the piston, rings, clips and wrist pin. so a piston for a 200t costs about $3 bucks
