Title: Stihl 181
Post by: brettl on January 25, 2015, 11:40:20 pm
I bought a little MS181 for my dad a few years ago. Over a period of months all the bar oil drained out through the oiler. Is this normal? Some of my big Stihls do this as well and not a big deal really. Inconvenient  though if a occasional-use homeowners saw has to be drained after each use.

The oiler system on the MS181 is made up just like on your 025/MS250 saws.

I would be looking at the rubber pick up line where it plugs into the oil tank or onto the press in oil pump?

I have the manuals if you need them? Just LMK in this thread

The oil hose set up on the 171/181/211 is just a molded hose that fits into to the bottom
of the oil tank. On these series saws if they're allowed to sit and the hose dries out a little they
leak like you're experiencing. Saws used only a couple times a year, with very few hours seem to have it happen
more than higher hour saws. Replace the hose and you'll be fine, the replacement hose is a different
rubber compound than the original in your saw. I do 5+ of these a year Stihl is well aware of the issue

I'm having trouble with my MS181 - I got dropped and the handle snapped so I need some replacement bits  ::)

660magnum or any other kind soul - could you please send me the workshop manual and exploded diagrams if you have them?
