Title: Echo 280
Post by: Cut4fun . on September 07, 2011, 06:16:49 pm
Working on a echo 280E top handle trim saw. Any idea when these were made?

Dont look like it has ever had bar oil in it.  :o

Got the little echo 280e dropped off this morning.    States runs fine but while in the cut the chain stops turning and the engine revs stay the same.

Also sold him my little like new poulan woodshark strato model with 14" and I had to laugh at his remark when I pulled it out of the case. Oh that is a big one.

That was easy  8).

Ran dry of bar oil. Chain and bar getting hot. Plus getting low on psi  still 120, but noticeable pulling over easier.

Also has been traded in now too.

Trimmed up a cherry tree with it yesterday. Dont know if it is the 120psi but the little saw seems easy to stop in the cut.

chances are the clutch and drum are glazed. good job for a flap wheel on a dermel :)

Good Idea on the clutch and drum.  I'll check later on.

It just seemed ball-less in the cuts with any pressure and the chain could be stopped. Could be I'm used to husky 338 39cc solo 637 40cc top handles and this is 28cc.

it is probably just plain gutless :) lots of the little echo's were like that from that era. the cs310 they build today feels just like running one of those 280's. you have to sort of hold it up off the wood and easily feed it, otherwise that chain stops. too badyou couldn't find a 1/4" pitch drum, chain and bar for it. seems like they were meant to run it as it makes the saw feel a lot more powerful.

Described to a T.  Starts on 1 pull and 2 at most.

Was bought new at the local stihl echo dealer I used to get my parts from.

Not my cup of tea and a shelf rider it will be.

Video says SOLD.    I guess I would do the same with this one.

Acts and sounds just like that one in video. Thanks for sharing.
