I picked up a non running, low compression Stihl ms280. I'll rebuild it and take pics as I go. As I understand this was the first model with the inteli carb.
Anyone have a IPL for this saw?

Did you look in Yahoo?
-
Pm sent as well.
660 hope you are feeling better
-
I seem to be over the fever part but still have a little congestion lingering at times.
-
Sounds like the worst is behind you then.
-
I sure hope so. Last year I was sick with bronchitis for 2 months. This year I used some of the meds from last year.

Your Yahoo mail Inbox or newmail . . . is where the Service Manual and IPL for the 280 are.
-
Jim. Can you resend? That was my wife's email. I changed it to mine. Thanks.

Look now?

Thank you

Did those saws come with IEM or something to that effect? For some reason I seem to remember it being advertised with some sort of electronic engine management, not just the intellicarb. Is that what you mean by first saw with this or just the intellicarb? Thanks.

I'm not sure about the IEM. I'm talking about the intellicarb.

12lbs 2oz empty.

I remember it but had to look it up to refresh my slow brain.
Intelligent Engine Management
The new STIHL MS 280 is the world's first chainsaw with intelligent engine management ...
It's remarkably clever: STIHL presents the world's first chainsaw models with intelligent engine management . An innovative regulating system controls the full-load mix and top speed of the machines electronically. That way, the chainsaw always delivers optimum engine power as well as offering even greater convenience and environmental friendliness. STIHL sets new standards with this pioneering chainsaw design concept. STIHL chainsaws with intelligent engine management are indicated by the letter "I" in the model name.
Clear advantages
Optimum engine performance at all times: An innovative regulating system automatically controls the full-load mix and top speed of the machine.
Good lugging power: The machines always reach a constant maximum speed and are characterised by their outstandingly good acceleration.
The correct carburetor setting, automatically: No need for manual adjustments in changing temperatures or when working under different conditions, such as at high altitude or with a dirty air filter.
Efficient and environmentally friendly: Because the fuel-air mix always remains within the optimum range, the engine uses less fuel and produces lower exhaust emissions.
This is how it works
The regulating cycle starts if the chainsaw is operated for 5 seconds under constant full throttle. The solenoid valve closes for a fraction of a second. The resulting speed change is electronically measured and analysed. According to the result the fuel-air mix is readjusted to keep it always within the optimum range. In full-throttle mode the mix ratio is automatically regulated every 5 seconds.
Solenoid valve
Solenoid valve in the carburetor
The digitally controlled solenoid valve opens and closes 30 times per second. That way, the fuel supply is precision-controlled.
Microprocessor
Microprocessor in the ignition module
The microprocessor monitors the engine speed and controls the solenoid valve.
Flywheel
Flywheel
A second pair of poles on the flywheel provides the necessary power supply for the microprocessor and the solenoid valve.
Constant top speed
Intelligent engine management is active even during uncontrolled rich come-down at full throttle. If the engine speed exceeds the upper limit of 14,000 rpm the mix is enriched to bring the speed back down to 14,000 rpm. This ensures a constant maximum speed.

Thanks Kevin, glad my memory isn't failing me completely yet! :D

I see why the top end is smoked.

280 is back together and running good. This is not the intelli carb version. It has an adjustable carb.

Nice thanks!

So was it a fun one to work on Ron?
-
My last poulan had a intake boot like that. 4 different areas ripped.
-
Not too bad honestly.
Going too sell it this fall when ppl start cutting again.
-
I have no interest in clammys ;D
-
it just makes you wonder if the bar got pinched and the mounts got stretched to the extreme. End result torn boot.

I would guess yes on some. That is the thing about the poulan and stihl I dislike on how their intake boots go through rear handles.
Do like the newer huskys we are used to on that design better.
