You had to get rid of all your saws. Which brand you think you would start over with if had to buy new.
As a firewood hack I am thinking today Echo then maybe Dolmar.

It depends on the reputation, condition, parts availability, and price of what I conveniently come across?
I have a few plastic case saws that some on the forums wouldn't speak highly of. They have worked fine for me. Some lesser or older ones I have given to my kids and they have not had any major problems. I have to still work on them on occasion but it has always been filters, lines, carb diaphragms, and with one kid - to sharpen the chains. I have or have had most of the more popular brands.
Some I didn't like was a 1838 Chinese Mac. Had a 1432 Mexican Mac and it was great. I had a couple plastic Homelite 45cc saws that run half speed compared to plastic Stihls but the kid likes them. I had a 150XL vibrating Homelite for 20 yrs. Never worked on it but got tired of the vibration. Had a Mini Mac 10 that was more aggravating than useful.

Jim IF you had to buy NEW saws today from dealer? For your uses.

Husqvarna 545 and 555 pair!

That's a rough question. Echo and Husky methinks. There are no Dolmar dealers within 100 miles of me.

The reason on my picks is Carbs.
Even though I have had 2 AT saws. I am still leery of local dealers and them being able to diagnose. Plus I didnt want to buy tools to hook up to laptops. I'm just not ready yet.
Hoping this fuel injection stuff ends up working as good as todays cars and trucks.

Yep if for some crazy reason I couldn't run the older models I prefer, I'd still stay far away from AT/MT. Would probably have a 355T, a couple other smaller Echos, a 620PW (or whatever Echo calls their 'western' version of the 600P with the full-wrap, bigger dawgs, and such), a 372XP/XT (would rather have an NOS non-XT 372XP) and a 390XP or 395XP.

DOLMAR!
I'd thought about that, but in Cut4Fun's "what if" scenario where I'd be buying new from a dealer it just wouldn't be an option. Dunno why............but there just aren't any Dolmar dealers anywhere near me. There used to be SD dealers here decades ago (some loggers here used SD143's and SD166's).
Also, while the small Dollys and a 7300/7900 would cover the small/medium work for me...........the 9010 hasn't been available in the US for a few years. I cut the big stuff frequently enough that I need a saw that'll run/oil a 36" bar well.
For you guys that are fortunate enough to have dealers close by then Dolmar is a great option, especially if you don't need a 90cc + class saw. I realize that I could get Dolmar saws and parts from other areas through the wonder of the internet................................but if that's still an option for me then I wouldn't be in this scenario in the first place (as I'd still be able to get/run/maintain my older saws). 8)

If I were to buy a echo or dolmar new right now. I would get hold of Nate from here, over my local echo dolmar dealer. Parts etc he is just north of me I figure 1hr to hour half, plus he ships to my door. 8)

Thanks to the EPA. Auto Tune is here to stay. It is not going away.

I'd have to go stihl for the big saw and dolmar for the rest.

With Trump as president maybe the EPA is going away

I wish but I doubt it. Hopefully get the stupid out of it.

I would go Stihl simply because I have a good dealer nearby. Echo would be my second choice, my trimmers have been great but when I need parts I have to wait as nobody stocks anything.
