Know the guy that bought it new, scored it somehow. Looking like straight gassed to me, but just a guess. Then he set it in a storage shed at his house for many years to be parts to the other 025 he bought.
Missing clutch cover and front muffler deflector, that I could tell with quick look over. Maybe some kind of muffler mod at exhaust exit on front cover. Havent looked under AF cover yet. Just looks grungy from being in the shed. I havent wiped nothing off.
Piston in 2nd pic scored.
$40 and shipping.

Dave ran out to peek under air filter cover for ya. No air filter itself. Must have got taken for his other 025 for a back up.
-
That early flat air filter is hard to come by? The current ones set in a 90 degree adapter and all you see is what looks like a small loaf of bread for a filter.

You most be talking very early. This air filter is sold everywhere. http://www.hlsproparts.com/Stihl-021-MS210-023-MS230-025-MS250-air-filter-p/h51025.htm

Thank you for the research Looks like a fun project. I'll take good care of her

That's the airfilter they sell now. There were two different ones before that one. One is flat and fastens up against the carb with those aluminum barrel screws. And the very first one fastened in the cover.
There's no reason you cannot use the present day filter. But if there is nothing at all on the carb, you will have to buy the 90 degree elbow too which HLS also sells.

You get a lot more RPM with that nylon mesh filter than with the flocked version that HLS sells.

Jim this 025 has the 90 degree and uses newer filter. So did the other 025 he had. So must not be that old of a 025.
-
Jim we should split your air filter info or just copy paste or repost it in the 025 thread. That is some good info to have saved for them.

Go for it.

Kev,
Do you know if it is 42 or 42.5mm? I have been looking for the 42mm.
I will get a check headed your way if you would be so kind as to send me your address.

No clue.
Maybe Jim knows somehow to tell without pulling the muffler back off again. He is my local 025 250 guru. He has bought 3 from me.

You look down the spark plug hole or in the exhaust port.
two ports equals 42mm
four ports equals 42.5 mm
Or you can measure on a popcycle stick stuck in the exhaust port?
I don't know the detail of any external markings on a 025? But on a MS250 it says Stihl MS250 in between the fins on the cylinder behind the flywheel.
Actually one runs about as good as the other. Either one can be in a 025.

After having and using both 42mm and 42.5mm bore saws, I think the 42.5mm was more a result of a EPA compromise? The .5mm increase was to make up for the power loss from changing the combustion chamber and porting for EPA emission compliance?
I have a 42mm version and it is a sweetheart. It runs good.

Jim
I thought like you did 2 port 42mm 4 port 42.5.
I bought a used oem 2 port. And it proved me wrong.
I have an evil plan for a 42 mm jug. I just need to get my hands on a good one

I've only been around and observed four of these saws. I have a 2 port 026 from 1991 and it is 42mm. I have a four port 026 that is from more like the millennium era. It could be probable that there is a intermediate combination?
The saw in the picture a couple posts above may have started out as a 1991 025. I'm essentially the second owner. But observing after having it completely apart - due to wear and tear of use over the years, the only thing 1991 left about it is the crank and cylinder. The covers are from a 025 but not a 1991 025. The rest of the parts are from a 2013 MS250. The crank is unusual in that it has rollers on the big end of the rod rather than a caged needle bearing. The smallest saw of this family had a single counterweight crank with rollers for bearings on the big end in the beginning. Also the rod is a billet style rod. It is not a forged I-beam.
Since the picture was taken I've had to replace the starter cover because the pulley post in the cover was a smaller diameter than current production. It now has a 2013 MS250 starter cover. The new MS250 parts were no more expensive than buying used 026 parts from Ebay.
