Well its been a long day for a lot of us. First and foremost let me explain why I chose to cancel the show at Cookeville . When we were approached by Roger of the Putnam county fair we told him how many 8x8s and how many 10X10s we would need to put the show on. In the past Jay and I have seen about the wood our selves. As many of you know Jay and I did the Livingston show for several years with no issues. This year Roger from the fair board was in charge of the wood. I called Roger this morning (and so glad I did) to make sure everything on his end was taken care of. When he told me the condition (it was round not square and not uniform in circumference) of the wood I told him that would not work. The wood HAS to be the same size for fairness. I am glad I didn't wait until the day of the event to find this problem. It would have been too late to notify everyone, and this way it saved a long trip for many people. I do want to thank the Putnam county fair board for showing the interest in putting on a contest and I thank Roger for all his work and effort. I also want to thank Jay for his help and building a brand new axe target for this show. I also thank my wife Vickie for doing all the paper work and helping get things ready. I really appreciate all of you for understanding the circumstances and the reason I cancelled. I DO believe with the right leadership Putnam county fair could have something very special in timber sports. Jay and I have talked it over and even though we wish them the best, we will not be involved with that process. Thanks again for your support, hope to see you all at the next contest!
