Title: ms250 breaks starter rope
Post by: dannyupsolate on June 12, 2015, 12:40:11 pm
stock saw acts like timing is bit to high. Is there any way to slightly adjust or do I try another flywheel. He has put three ropes on it in last two years.

Right size and quality pull rope?

Something nicking up rope?

looked right was from local stihl dealer. Owner says it kicks back sometimes when  pulling rope but runs great once it starts.

They pull a little hard anyway and there's no decompression on a standard one.

They should have #4 rope on them. (Double braid Dacron)

I would make sure the pulley was new the next time a rope is changed.

If you dilly dally around when starting one they will surely try to show you who's the boss!

Pull it with all the gusto you have.

thanks will try to get new pulley. suppose no adjustment on magneto will retard timing slightly.

I have these. I never had a timing issue.

If it doesn't calm down get back on here.

I think they are a great little home owner saw.

They are not put together like a Husqvarna or Dolmar. But after you get used to them they are OK.

The 025/MS 250 are the biggest in this series and I like .325 X 16" chain on them. Stihl RS or RM.

Taking the starter cover off them, I most often see the coil wire ran wrong in them. There's a little square hole near the coil that all the coil wires go through near the coil. Most people try to run the spark plug wire on the same side as the coil on up higher in the flywheel chamber before going over across the shield to the spark plug. This damages the spark plug wire.
