Title: tuning the 460 mag
Post by: jamming on February 27, 2011, 12:47:57 pm
Didn't see a spot for tuning so i put it here, So i just bought a 460 and now ported the exhaust last night, put the cover on and turned the high and low out to max with disrupting the limiting things.

So i am blip blip ! seems a little rich blip blip ! So i turn it in a little and starts to sound correct and come alive !

Buddy walks up and says you can't tune a saw like that ! You gotta be cutting underload and have someone help adjust it, WTF ! nice guy but drunken indian !

What do you guys think ?

i suppose the correct way to tune a saw is in the wood but i tune my saws out of the wood. works good for me! 8)

For firewood cutting I have my saws 4 stroking with a burbling sound and clear up in the cut.

Here is a Sachs Dolmar 166 I had really rich. listen to how it cleans up in the wood.

How do i remove the limiters ???? Are they plastic, my saw has a rubber boot looking thing do i remove that and work through the hole of do i take the saw apart, Thanks for the videos and web site ! Great info !!!

SO TUNING IT WHILE CUTTING COULD CAUSE A LEAN CONDITION AND DAMAGE THE SAW ! CORRECT !

you need to pull the carb to remove the caps unless you have the correct tool from stihl. you can use a wood screw to remove them. screw the screw in clockwise and once it bites in turn the cap counter clockwise until the slot line up then pull it out. you can tune in the with some help but id have it close before i try it.

I have heard of using a drywall screw.

They came out easy, now just waiting on my new dogs and exhaust cover, decided to buy the bailys one. Mine is a chrome vent and looks funny with a little chrome scoop on the cover ! LOL !!
