Title: Stihl FS-46 Aftermarket Carb
Post by: 660magnum on August 13, 2015, 09:50:44 pm
Carb - Ebay $16.98 free shipping arrived 3 days after order placed all the way across the nation

Was a Chinese generic with no name. Looked identical to the Zama C1Q-S186A in a side by side comparison. But there was no EPA stop tab on the HS NV!

My experience in this North Central Ohio location, the Zama is $28.95 from the Stihl dealer.

Early on last week the neighbor (83 yr old) and his brother came over with a dead FS-46 curved shaft trimmer. (4140 family). Older but lightly used.

Was flooded - removed and dried plug and pulled motor through 15-20 times upside down with the throttle wide open and the plug out. Sprayed mix all over everything.

Re-installed the plug and pulled through a half dozen times with the throttle on high idle and the choke off. No fire! Plug was covered in oil. Did this a second time with a new spark plug and it was the same story.

Decided that the metering valve was not holding? I didn't check it with the Mighty-Vac 6500 on the fuel inlet. He had trouble with this whacker since new.

Installed new aftermarket Chinese carb. removed and dried the old spark plug. Pumped the carb bulb until gas present. Fast idle - No choke.

Started first pull. Ran rich until the old excess fuel burned out. Never adjusted needles. Ran it for a while and took it to owner. Started again first pull.

Way to go.   I guess when you have to the Chinese carbs get the job done.   I am curious as to how long the rubber pieces inside the carb will last.    Heck one pull you can't beat that.

I've had some Emas brand Chinese carbs in the past that looked like Walbro WT's and I never had any trouble with them.

You can get the Chinese carbs a lot cheaper than what I paid but they ship from China.

I needed it a little faster than 3-4 wks.

Guy in Cailf that sent me a bunch of oem parts for a cheap skate friend of mine. Fixed his carb by the way and wish I had just got one of these.
But he says he buys these Chinese carbs in bulk for his trimmers used by his crews.

It only takes about 7-12 days from China to USA now. Not 3 or 4 weeks.
