While the ebay parts seller was here getting 3 saws from me. He told me he had about 600 saws and one of them is a McCulloch 10 10 gear drive. Mac 70 something ? Anyone got info so I can learn about this.

I guess they made them, why I have no idea especially a 10-10 gear drive .I can't imagine what good that would be .

The Aussie dollars dive into oblivion has all but put a stop to any overseas purchases, getting under 66c usa per aussie dollar but I will check out those site ideas

That saw is likely a G70. There were a number of 54-70cc 10-series gear drives.
I have a 5-10G plus a parts saw and a partial carcass. Will build a nice runner out of the lot at some point. There are many saws ahead of it in the project line. IIRC, it had a 32" or so bar and a loop of 1/2" on it when I got it.

I ran some mac gear drive that belonged to Al Smith that impressed the heck out of me. Wasnt like no slow gear drive I ever seen before.

The only reason I can possibley think of for running reduction on a 10 series saw is possibley a lighter weight saw that could handle longer bars .
It would make sense for example how a 700 would have more RPMs than say an 80 or 87 c cc reed engine but it certainly would not have the torque of a reeder .

That was 650 which is 87 cc .That engine runs at over 9,000 under load and it's a two to one reduction .It's dandy but heavy as lead .

Sounds like a 7-10 with a gearbox the G-70 out here in Australia the railways used them on bridge construction
