Title: A041 20" 3/8LP bar
Post by: Cut4fun . on September 15, 2015, 09:09:04 pm
I had a request for a poulan 20" bar for a 42cc in 3/8LP. I looked and looked for OEM but nothing. I even looked on my rack and only 18".

Well today getting one of my bars down I noticed a 20" 3/8LP 68DL for A041 mount I had forgot about. GB sprocket nose replaceable bar.   I had bought it for the PP295 I never switched to 3/8LP.
Guessing 68DL

Guess I will see if the guy wants it tomorrow and some Stihl PS PS3 chain.

68 DL almost sounds like 18" bar or a short 20".

I think my 18" bar that runs 3/8 lo pro chain uses 62dl.

I have one on my heavily modified 42cc Craftsman/Poulan with 91VXL.  It is exactly 19" exposed length, or essentially the same as the 20" 0.325" on my 46cc 2775 which has a spike.

It's a great combo for a modified 42cc, and would also be great on the 46cc, but IMO will be too much for a stock saw.

Yep thats it. Left Coast Supplies is where I had got mine.

Was you drive link count 68?  Guessing because 18" is 62DL

Yes it's the 68DL bar.  I was curious about what the real length would be - it is longer than the standard 62DL bars, but it's also a fatter bar with a wide tip, so that uses up some of those extra drive links.

I have one of the old gray GB's with the replaceable tip. I believe it's the AO41 mount. It came on an Olympyk 950. 3/8 lo PS and its 70 dl.

I have a white/grey GB K041 in full 3/8 that is 70DL.

I can't quite tell from the picture angle if that's a large or small diameter tip.  This is the one I got:
https://leftcoastsupplies.com/product/18-gb-arbor-tech-bar/

Mine's not as orange as it used to be!  The bar itself is holding up fine though, and that saw, bar and chain combo is just about my favorite - the 19" length is enough for most of what I cut, including most of what I need to noodle, and the narrow kerf really lets small displacement saws haul.  I'm still really tempted to get one for the ported 46cc Poulan.

LCS sold out of the 62DL 18" called length 3/8-LP A041 mount bars.  62DL is the 'standard' count for an 18" called length 3/8-LP bar.  Non-LP 3/8" pitch 18" called length bars are usually 65-68DL, depending on which saw they're intended for.

Same thing with 16" called length bars.  3/8-LP 16" bars are 55-56DL, while non-LP 3/8 16" bars are 59-60DL...

This is what I like about the 68DL GB bar - I'm a big fan of LP chain and now I can have a 19" LP bar.  Of course you can't get chain loops in the local hardware store, but it's not a big problem.

Chris one in your link shows 18".   I am thinking same bars in 20" just different colored tips.

When I ordered it showed black tips at LCS.  1 of the 2 that came in was orange tip. I ordered a 12" 3/8LP K095 bar too and had black tip.

Yeah, I know that's what they advertised it as, but the 18" is nonsense at 68DL.  I don't think there is any difference between the 18" and 20" dimensions - I mean they are both 3/8, 68DL and about the same shape, so the length has to be the same.

It's 19" from the front of the saw to the edge of the cutters on the tip.  Attached is a typical 62DL 18" bar, the GB bar, and an Oregon 20" 0.325 (78DL) bar at the bottom.  The final location of the bar tip when mounted will move around a bit based on the DL count and how much slack must be tensioned out.

I'll try and take a pic today too.

My bar is neither of the 68DL posted in the links.  Mine is actual 20" and same length etc as my 78DL 325 bar.   So now I have to guess the DL again as the one I bought isnt shown anymore I guess.

Working on pics.

18" black on top. 20" white 325 on bottom.  20" 3/8LP orange.

Had to move the 20" 325 78dl out so you could see under there in 2nd pic.

Thinking about it again - if the DL count is the same the bar tip will be about the same place for either the "18in" or "20in" bars we took pictures of, at least if the tip diameters and bar widths are similar.  It's really the tail location that changes!

Looking at your bar and mine compared to a typical 20"/0.325/78DL bar, mine is only slightly shorter.  I know when mounted with a 68DL loop the tail is pretty far forward, so if instead I were using your bar the only difference would be where the tail ended up.

Chris get you GB bar tail mount info.

mine

41677

P020  50WR

mine does come back to this 68DL one by the numbers on tail mount.  http://leftcoastsupplies.com/product/20-gb-arbor-tech-bar-38lp/

weird how it is same length as the .325 20" compared to yours being inch shorter.

Going to compare my bar to a 20" 3/8 70dl full 3/8 next. Before cutting a 68dl ps3 chain for the GB bar.  Did a 62dl today already for a guy and just wanted to make sure on this other bar.  :-X

Well it's a different bar - P018.  Other than that it is the same, and as I said with the same 68DL chain the difference is pretty much irrelevant.  I think I'd rather have the P020.

No problem - I've been curious about the 20" vs. 18" thing for a while!  Now I'm wondering about getting the bar you have and a loop of LoPro in maybe 70DL or so......

I wrapped the LP chain around bar with a 3/8 7T rim at back and 68 would be a close fit IMO bar to rim. Good if it works.
Norm with 6T spur would be perfect.  Just my WAG

Still not cut just trial fitting without breaking chain.

With a 7T full 3/8?  Yeah that would probably be close and I think a 7T would be too much for the saw I have it on.  I'm so tempted to order the 20" bar and a 70DL chain for the 46cc, as I think it would be perfect for it - but I can't make myself pay $21 in shipping for $23 of parts.  :(

Maybe if I work really hard at rationalizing it for a bit.

They had both 68DL and 70DL 3/8-LP A041 bars listed for a while.  Last I looked, they had two different A041 bars (with different part #'s)............both listed as taking 68DL of LP.  I'm thinking there was a data entry error, and one of them is actually the 70DL bar.

If I can get a day off during the week to visit my buddy in Willits I'll stop by LCS.  They're about two miles from his house.  Unfortunately, they're closed Saturdays............and I usually run up there on the weekend.

Messing with 2 different saws Chris.  Spur 6 on PP260 that came in.  Then my 2700 46cc has spur but would swap to rim.

The full 3/8 7 rim with the 3/8LP chain fit perfect around it. I have ran LP on a 3750 before with no problems.  I'll take pic of rim and chain around later too.

Thats what I am thinking and why I am going to compare the GB pro top 70dl bar full 3/8 with the LP bar.

Then again you see how far out his 18" is with the 68DL chain. Maybe went wrong there and was suppose to be a 64dl - ? or so on the 18"? Reg poulan skinny bar is 62dl.

Here is my full size 20" 3/8 70DL GB pro top bar in K041 mount.  Notice this 20" 3/8LP bar in A041 isnt smaller at all (narrower) in mount area and just hair shorter and narrower in belly.

The 70DL full 3/8 bar is right near the rim like they should be IMO, not way far away like that 18" 68DL chain pic.

Thinking I will make a 68DL and 70DL chain.

Full 3/8 white bar part number shown for anyone looking for these. Nice dang bars with replaceable sprocket tip.

Well I just did a duh. I forgot to try the 68DL loop on the pp260 with the 6T.

On the pp365 with 7T the 68 was to short.  So I broke it added 2 DL to 70 and IMO 70 is to long. So 69DL with 7T would be just right.

The 260 is setting to the right of the bar tip of the 365 in this pic. I'm such a moron to forget to test fit it too.

So the 20" bar with 70DL was out too far?  But that was with a 7T?

I have a mess of 3000/3300/3.3/PP335 saw stuff coming my way.  Will likely be able to build two or three runners out of it.  Will run LP on at least one of them.  I'm no fan of .325, and would rather run 3/8 and 3/8-LP on everything (except the big 'uns that I run .404 on)...
