Post by: dannyupsolate on September 21, 2015, 09:53:33 pm

Probably needs new rope rotor and pawls. The sockets where the pawl pivots become sloppy and worn pawl tips lead to poor engagement.

yes  exactly  I put pawl back in straightened clip and got it to turn over a few times .   seems to have stopped engaging again now.

I was thinking like Adam. Did you replace rotor too or just the pawls?  Rotor might be wallowed.

was just trying to get it to start before I order parts.  trying to get everything in one order. no 066 parts on hand. will order complete recoil and housing since one screw boss is broke off bottom of recoil housing.

I keep a stash of starter pawls on hand.  Every one thru here gets new ones.

I have mostly seen problems with the rotor. Becoming sloppy on the stud or axle in the cover.

how many models of pawls are there.  can you just keep large and small on hand and cover most stihl models or are they model specific.

I have seen a slightly bent spring hold up the pawls from extending.
Make sure (while holding the assembly in your hand after removing from the saw) the little tabs on the pawls are inside the spring so when the rope is pulled, the spring directs the tabs on the pawls outward, without any hang up or hesitation

guys I think this rotor has all the problems you have mentioned at once. it 's done hurt my shoulder and customer can wait till new one gets here from china. maybe shoulder be better by then.  do the rotors interchange for several models or not.  might order some extra if they work on several models

Price is right for sure.

Did you look for a good used oem first. I used to get them for $20-$50
