Title: Poulan micro Super xxv Deluxe
Post by: Cut4fun on September 28, 2015, 12:19:25 pm
2nd one of these Poulan micro Super xxv Deluxe  I have had now.  1st one went to a big poulan collector in tx.   If I remember right 1st one was even nicer.

Original owner saw with original black lettered poulan bar still too.  Said he was using this this year. I just pulled rope to check psi and it felt good.

If anyone wants to trade me out of or buy outright these last 2 poulans before I check them over PM me.
I went to AV top handles now and have to much poulan micro stuff on the shelves already.  The 3800 isnt a series I keep for myself either.

God must of smiled down on me. The 2 poulans run great and this one just needs a new sponge air filter.  Just wow what luck I had by just pulling the ropes.

Then I got this stihl 031 that someone gave me to work on for the. Grrrrrrrr that one made me sweat. Freaking Pullon my butt. Pullstihl.

Did I ever tell ya I cant stand a 031  :P.  Sell them to the cult like followers too.  ;)

I don't care for the 031 myself but apparently there's a lot of people that do. The one I had sure sold quick. It started very reasonably.

You have not worked on a 019T.

Those old Stihls sure could test one's patience. I cringed when an 015 or 019T came in the shop, the 031's weren't much better. The little Poulans were very popular here too and relatively easy (for a mini saw) to work on. I don't need another small saw but would grab a clean XXV in a heartbeat if I could find one locally. The exchange rate and freight kill any interest in bringing one across the line.

You have the shipping already.   We can work something out to get it into your hands if you dont have one like this.

Runs good so I didnt have a reason to pull plug or muffler.  You want me to pull plug check psi.

You can have this for what I have in it too, if your going to keep it for your collection. ;)

Kevin my friend you are one of my chief enablers.  Yeah go ahead and check the compression if you would please.  I think we can work something out.  If it comes to me, you know I won't be flipping it. 8)

Since it's a Super...........it should be 38cc (same as a 2300).  May 'just' be 33cc however.  Bore measurement would tell the tale.

Working on pics.

Piston looks great with witness marks very bold on piston looking from muffler on exhaust side.  The ring is real shiney almost like chrome looking. I thought that was odd.

I pulled and got 120psi is this in the norm range on these? I never paid attention and dont think I ever checked before.

That's about average for these.  Most Micro series saws (including this one) have a chromed piston and unplated bore.  Just like a 3400 or 3800, they don't blow as much compression.  A fresh, just broken in saw will have 130-135psi (maybe).

I have a 25da I think that's the number . It loks similar to the pic above on 1st page. Bought off a guy, it sat in his barn for god knows how long I put fresh gas in it and wammo. It ran, but like chit I think it has a air leak somewhere.

The basic 'popsicle stick' bore measurement on a couple of mine was ~1.43", same as the 2.0's...

If it's a 25DA (and not a Micro 25DA) then it is a totally different saw than what we are talking about here.  Same mfg.  Somewhat similar look.  Almost no parts interchange though.  Part of the XXV series rather than the Micro series.  The XXV series are my favorite top handle saws.  Second for me (and the only other top handles that I like) are the Micro series.

I'll measure it when it gets here.  Doesn't really matter to me either way though.  I have a Craftsman 2.3AV branded 2300AV for my 38cc Micro fix.

last week I needed to measure a piston and while I i was bringing the piston down in the exhaust port I thought why don't   I just leave it stick up in the port a bit  then butt the long end of my caliper against the piston and push the caliper open till the pin hits the back side of the cyl. and read the dial, worked perfectly.

The pic of the guy heading out to cut wood with his cardboard box case is pretty funny. It's really thin, cheesy cardboard, you'd have to be really careful with it to get through the first outing, lol.
