Title: Husqvarna 350 hard to start??
Post by: ECpirates96 on November 09, 2011, 08:06:16 pm
Bought a used Husqvarna 350. After some cleaning when I try to start it. I have to pull and pull and pull. I replaced the fuel line and filter. It will eventually start and at that point I have to let it ideal for a moment. If I were to hit the gas it will flood and I have to let it sit awhile before starting over and pulling it again.

Also it will not start with the brake engaged (You cannot even pull the rope) is that correct?

When it does start the chain is fully engaged (not sure if this is correct either or it needs new clutch springs.)

Trying to get this running right because I do now want to be in the top of a tree trying to limb and dealing with a picky saw.

Did you try adjusting your carb at all? And yes it sounds like your clutch springs are broke or wore out.

For some reason or another, your clutch is locked up and not functioning.

Could be the bearing in the center?

Could be a broken shoe or spring?

Using the Illustrated Parts List and to look at the clutch may reveal what is wrong.

Sounds as though the metering valve in your carb is not functioning. You could try a new diaphragm in the metering side of the carb?

Thanks, I figured the springs may be a problem on the clutch. As for the carb I have adjusted the L and H with no difference. I will take a look at the diaphram kit and maybe rebuild the carb. I will post the results back to see what has happened.

The clutch could be installed wrong.
I have picked up a few parts saws like that.
The 350 when working properly is a VERY easy starting saw.
Check the IPL and make sure the fuel lines are run properly and the clutch is installed in the right order.

Then we will start working on any carb problems.

Well I made some adjustments to the carb and the starting is easier now. As for the clutch. I have pulled it off and checked eberything and reinstalled and it still have the chain engaged full time and if I engage the chain brake it shuts the saw off. Clips look good and clutch looks fine. I don't see how I could install it wrong. Maybe I need to go back and install the old sprocket and see if there is any difference? Any advice?

Did you check the IPL?
Most of the time the clutch stack will be assembled wrong, or the clutch will be on backwards.
Does the clutch fit loosely in the drum?
When you tighten down the clutch, can you turn the drum freely? If not there has to be something binding in there.
Is there any writing on the clutch? Some will have "Off" and an arrow, others will say this side out, etc.
