Learned something today. **** open a set of cases and realized the case screws were a coarse thread vs. almost every other one I have that were a fine thread. Must be an early version....but the point is I can no longer assume 346 cases & case screws are all created equal....
( Still getting used to the look of that crank when "center" is set by the bearings and pto case side....leaves more distance on the flywheel side by quite a lot... but that's how they have to be! )

Hello Weimedog! Good to hear from you. Are you talking about the main case bolts or cylinder bolts? I remember that I learned from one of your videos that somewhere in mid to late 2000 they could be either one, at least on the plastic cased versions of 340-350, and the Jonnys 2145, 2150. Any more I just keep the bolts with the case I tore down. What year 346 are you working on?

With the plastic cased 340-350 that's true. I guess I didn't expect it on the metal cased 346xp's. AND you really have a mix of the two threads through out the cases...coarse on things like the oil pump, fine on the cylinder screws, bucking spikes and the 6 case screws. Coarse on the ignition coil and the rest of the plastic parts....
Building 3 346xp cased saws.... really didn't look at the tags, they were all from a box of parts. I've had to separate out the parts to piece together the saw in "mock up" so I can catalogue what I need to complete these projects...

Good to know as I have 2 346's of 2011 & 12 waiting to be rebuilt. The 353's of that period may be affected as well. Sure don't need any cross-threading going on. :-[ Just want to commend you on all your videos. I have sure enjoyed watching and learning from all of them. Like you, I'm a tinkerer, and love to wrench on this series of saws. Keep them coming as I really enjoy them sir. You have a wonderful Thanksgiving

I never been through this series like some of the others. So this is good info to know.
Most of mine were easy fixes just needing a topend etc. Never inside the crankcase yet.

IPLs tells me that the part number for the case changed by 2003 week 5, as did the number for the bolts - so that may be when that change occurred?

Must be... and to the commonality of parts between the 350 series........(Wish I had videoed some of this!!)
You can adapt the top end...did a couple of those. Top end from air filter through to muffler.
Tank/handle and handle bar. Anti vibration stuff. Throttle & linkage
Bucking spike
Pull Start & clutch side cover.
Chain brake parts inside the cover & spring stop on the cases.
Ignition
Multi Function Switch
muffler & related hardware
Some things you can't
Obviously all things related to the cases & hardware
Crank Shaft is different on the PTO side
Clutch
Chain Brake Handle/lever and mounting hardware...
