Title: what does the 2 letters indicate on a chainsaw bar
Post by: Josh on January 24, 2016, 10:24:18 am
I've got some Husqvarna chainsaw bars. They are all the same length, pitch, gauge, drive length and part number. But they each have different letters on them right past the part number. One has SM, another HV, and the last is GB. I was just wondering what the significance of those letters are and what they mean. Thanks for any info

WAG

Maybe who made them or if it is a laminated bar verses a solid bar verses and replaceable sprocket tip verses a non replaceable tip.
Then if sprocket tip replaceable maybe like a meaning of 11T to 10T?

GB had made some bars for husqvarna and labeled husky.  Guess on GB

But if all the same part number seems that would rule that out unless the letters made the part number different. All just my Wild Azz Guess

GB is Griffiths and Beerens, SM is Tsumura, HV is an Oregon code.  Its who made the bars.

If Oregon bar, the two letters stand for date code of manufacturing.

Are the tips and the riveting looking the same on all those bars? Are they laminated or solid?

Pictures would be helpful.

As far as I know, most fairly recent Husky bars either are made by Oregon or Husky themselves, with some GB bars in the mix. I have never seen or heard of any Husky branded bars that were made by Tsumura - but it would be excellent news if they started doing that...
