Title: Need a few ideas.
Post by: Old Iron Logging on December 03, 2011, 02:22:45 pm
We are looking for another line of product to sell at the shop. We are looking for something that can generate sales close to Stihl without competing with it. We sell Stihl products every day. We generate good sales with our other lines but none match Stihl.

We carry Hitachi, Bosch, General, Jet, Eagle, Irwin etc.

Any ideas out there? Looking for things that can't be purchased at the box stores.

What is the main business line. Pro fellers, homeowners with trim saws, firewood cutters, etc.

Our main line is Stihl with the pro market being about 4 % of the sales. Homeowner makes up the rest. The other lines are geared toward industry, boat building, construction, etc.

Stihl products are 30% of our inventory but make 50% of our income.

Looking for something in the $150- $300 range that would move every day, that anyone would buy.

Looking for something that does not require a large staff to manage. We find that our current staff of 3 fits well with the products we sell now. When we were into rentals and Toro we were up to a staff of 11. Extra mechanics, trucks, etc. Generated alot of income, but also alot of expence.

The town we are in has a population of approx 7,000. We draw people from approx 1 1/2 hours away so that would cover another 10-12,000 people.

Art moved this to the suggestions board for you.

Dan dozerdan might have some suggestions, spike60, bloodontheice etc all work or run dealerships.

Might sound off the wall but have you ever thought of air tools .

My wifes cousin has made a bloody fortune at it .If you think about it where can you buy things like air chisels ,die grinders and the like plus tooling components to go with them ,compressers hose etc .

Thanks Al, we already carry full lines of air tools and accessories, fittings and compressors. Have the die grinders and bits covered also. Rigid pipe threading components too.

Any other ideas?
