Title: Ads
Post by: Cut4fun . on February 20, 2016, 10:39:34 am
I have always paid to keep the auto ads off the site.  I noticed today I am getting low on credits left.  Ad Free Credits: 9741 Order Credits

If you start seeing the auto ads at the top in banner area let me know.

I thought about this for awhile. Even though I cant stand ads at top of sites.  I decided to let the ad blocker run out and see what it is like.
We are down in the 4000 range today from 9000 range just 3 days ago.

We just go through to many ad credits here now to keep paying them in a lump some.  I dont want to pay them a monthly fee to go unlimited blocks. Soooooo we will see.

From my understanding the ads will be whatever you have been searching online.

what is the cost of credits to keep them blocked?

what is the cost of credits to keep them blocked?

I want to see if they bother me and or members first. I think they are only on the main page at very top near my banner.
When we click on boards or threads they wont be seen. So i am guessing a non issue unless you look at main page without going into a board.

I'll check prices. But I thought it was ridiculous for the unlimited monthly fee.

Heck it is only $170 a year for the sites Xenforo software for their site for the whole forum.  I think Createaforum has went over that with this ad BS. All JMO.

Do you all even see this at the top?  Ad Free Credits: 4215

i dont see the ad free credits. i was just curious how much we all would need to pony up for an add free space. ads arent bad as long as they dont suck up to much data. those of us on DSL wont be bothered too much with some ads but the guys on cell phone internet or dialup may notice slower load times. Maybe give a heads up to any of the buys you know are on dial up so they can keep watch for load times and make a determination from there.

you know i will gladly help out anytime you need it so if the ads become too much let me know.

I will post here when the credits run out so all will know and lets see what happens.   I dont think it was bad at all from what I remember.

It focuses on each person and what they were looking at on the internet.   If I was looking at a truck part at a parts place. Thats what I may see.
That reminds me need to go look up a part at rockauto for envoy.

Thanks for the offer Nate.

I had a few members offer to pay for the ad blocker monthly fee. But I told them lets wait and see how it goes.

I just try and keep folks $$ in their pockets. Plus by me letting it run out it keeps alittle in mine too.

So far I see no difference in speed etc just their ads I dont really pay attention to.

Thanks to those that offered to help. You know who you are. ;)

me either.

interesting thing the inter-webs are..........you have to pay to keep the ads off, at the very same time folks that want the ads to run for thier company are paying to keep those very same ads on.

they seem to get you both ways?

i don't get to see a list of scripts on my machine anymore with the stuff i am running nowdays, it is all silently just blocked, no list.

maybe just a googley bot?  think they put things onto search engines, when a person searches for things.  in this case a google search?

i am not sure, on that for certain.
Title: Re: Ads
Post by: 660magnum on February 26, 2016, 07:48:18 pm
One thing for sure . . . Ads pay the way and companies are continually trying to develop ways to present more.

Currently, I don't see any ads with the setup I've been running the last 15 years.

That doesn't mean that they will not start showing up in the future?

Google is both a friend and adversary. I use their browser (Chromium/Chrome) as well as their search engine. But they try to track where what and when you search for things. They get money from the places you go to as a result of the Google search as well as sell that information to the ad representatives.

My wife clicked on a new free game on Facebook the other day. Now she is plagued with pop up ads every time she changes the screen even though she uninstalled the game..

There actually are no free lunches in life. Someone has to pick up the tab. Eventually, indirectly, it is you.

how about alibaba selling me a chainsaw.

so far no big deal. It is just one ad banner and i cant see where that will hurt a thing. getting excited over nothing.
Title: Re: Ads
Post by: Cut4fun . on February 26, 2016, 09:22:07 pm
Sort of a Catch22

Whats funny is you got to pay to hide them.
Got to pay to add ad pro if I wanted to sell ad banners space to folks that have ask in past to buy space.

I just dont want to do that to this site.

No win for me being I dont want it to be one of those type sites.   I want it all to be free here.  Hate when folks want to charge folks monthly fees to sponsor to sell stuff to help folks out. We are all sponsors here IMO. It is free to sell, make your stores or whatever you have to offer to help in the chainsaw world.

Why am I seeing naked women at the top of the banner.   Just joking guys, but I am seeing tractor ads and computer ads and lawn equipment ads.  I get them at the top and at the very bottom of the page.   No big deal to me and it does not seem to slow the computer down.
Title: Re: Ads
Post by: 660magnum on February 27, 2016, 11:16:21 pm
The ads are often related to where you've been.

So if you see girls at the top, someone has been looking at girls on your computer?
Title: Re: Ads
Post by: Cut4fun on February 28, 2016, 09:12:36 am
I was thinking. If we have to see ads. Maybe see our own folks ads.

I was checking and for $20 a month I could install ad pro and it would allow to put url from our own folks here. It's what some members have been asking me for in the past but I didnt want the ads.

It does away with their ads and let me put our own members ads in its place.
I know it includes removing their ads.

I just ask this on support.

I would like to see a website using this Ad Pro software.  Could someone using it show me their website?

Can you put in your own ads in place of the rotating ads that are force feed from here?

Just noticed something on the BS ads showing up.  In the right hand top corner there is a X boxed. Click it.

This comes up.

It's gone. Undo
What was wrong with this ad?
Inappropriate
Irrelevant
Repetitive

Then choose one. I been blocking from seeing stupid ads this way here.

clicking irrelevant just lets google have a little more of your info to send you better ads
I just saw an ad for the Tavor 9mm conversion kit I looked at on Amazon yesterday
I guess we are long past the point where every bit we send out ends up in the hands of the government and google anyway

I don't mind the ads. My take is use the ad pro thing and get rid of the silly adds and let the members here with saw businesses take those spaces. Keeps the hole forum on topic with saw stuff. I think if people want to advertise here they should be an active member and make post that help others. I would let them know up front that they hold no power over the forum to direct post made or where the forum goes because of there dollars spent.

personally i am for advertisement free site...keeps some of the bickering down and complaining here is almost nonexistent...the way it should be :) but i can easily see the other side...if advertisements are going to run they might as well be for the benefit of the users instead of useless ads

Before the ad blocker ran out. I had 1 member offer to pay the $15 a month for unlimited ad blocker.  I told them lets just wait and see what it is like, because I couldn't remember back 2011 with the ads.

Then I noticed for $20 a month for Ad Pro it included the Ad Blocker.  To me that would be the better deal for $5 more a month.
Then we would be able to keep our ads to a min and have blocker.

If folks wanted to go this route.

The ads there on ope forum  have got worse then AS. If you can believe that.
They are popping out from the sides now and even covering the thread readings. I cant stand it. Soon as one pops out to annoy me I leave and read elsewhere.
