Title: twist in flippy replacements en route from Hong Kong now
Post by: DefinitiveDave on March 09, 2016, 12:08:48 pm
DHL shows them moving towards me but no arrival date yet.

Caps will be sold in pairs to customer in order of descending hatred of flippy caps:)

Trade-ins of NOS or NIB 346XP and 046 and 066 red lights accepted.

I liked these way better than flippys.
Randy liked them on the 044 he built me.
Several other saw enthusiasts and builders have perorders with me in qty.
It must me noted that Jeremy dislikes them because they have a low profile and are hard for him to turn with his little baby hands when they are oily.
I mean who doesn't thoroughly wash their hands before touching a chainsaw....COME ON!!

If you think you have the best story of why you hate flippy caps, post it up here and I will send a few sets out for free to those that are most inspiring.

Whice ones are these? The 2 tab style like you was getting off the cases?

I had a question ask me while putting the other style one on the 440. Being I am not a stihl guy in the know I couldnt ansewer or give it a try being it was cold out.
Was the oil cap the same and the same caps could be used on both on the 440?

She and him wanted caps for their 440 and her 211 using the (small oiler cap too).

They say they have more then one time had to fight getting caps back in alignment and had them pizz down there pant legs and boots.

I dont own a stihl now, but from time to time fought one and had it pizz down my legs in the past too.

Glad to see folks stepping up and getting these deals done.  8)  Pics of these coming to you?

This version is so far only made in the larger of the two sizes.
So if you have a 362 or 440 or God forbid a 290 you are set.
If your. Tool uses two different size caps your oil will still pour out on your boots.

They will be about $12 pair shipped in the us when they get here and will be on eBay.

I will post up some glamour shots later today.

There is a second type of replacement also coming pretty soon from Gregg at Left Coast that lock with a push button. He sent me a sample and I plan to carry those as well. Gregg said they would be available in both sizes

Info I was searching for. ;)

On flippy caps of either OEM or AM persuasion you can sometimes get them partially twisted shut while flipped open and then when you try to install them they are misaligned and when you shut the flipdown lever it pops the cap out of the hole, sometimes entirely - the problem is that the cap is now twisted shut and cannot be installed in this position, so unless you realize how to grab the cap and open it (even though it looks normal), it will never work properly.
Recently I got a batch of several hundred of the large Aftermarket Flippy (farmertec) caps that have an O-ring that is slightly larger than OEM, they work great on an older saw but wont close on a new saw.

I like that they CCC cap is already for the oem slot inside the tank. The other test bed LCS one I had to modify to put in slot after the Y broke.

Furthest right is the LCS cap has locking tab and CCC cap Dave has is the one next to it dont lock in place.

Dont know if this will matter or not. Any info on that Dave? Anyone every not tightened one all the way or somehow knocked it loose to leak?

I only had them on a few fun saws but all of the MS290 AM tanks out of the Gelinte factory use them.
They have a positive "closed" position when installed.

@DefinitiveDave  Received the 2 sets you sent me today.   Thank You.   8)

Hopefully going to get the husband and wife team in with 440 211to put one on each of their saws for a firewood cutters field test for me.  The LCS one is on the 440 right now.

Whoever gets in the small cap for the stihl 211 oiler cap let me know. I have a standing order to get one of those. She hates that flippy.

Dave just had the 440 come back in. Have been the test bed for both style of caps. He prefers the ones you sell for fuel cap. Guess I will see if he wants a set for the oil cap now too.

Yep he wanted the oil flippy cap replaced too ;).  Ready to go back out after repairing for no start.

Yes these are the ones that fit all flippy style  cases.  I had to get a chinese case for a tree crushed 290 stihl. Last thing I did was put on oil cap and it broke. Original caps would not fit the chinese case.  Dave saved the day on that one.

There is also a locking version that Gregg at LCS designed.  Hope he is able to pull the strings to get them to make the small oiler caps too.  http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/left-coast-supplies/video-of-the-stihl-flippy-cap-replacements/

I don't see these on Dave's Ebay store. Is he still selling them and do hold up? I like that they don't have any moving parts, do they stay tight? I think little red barn has the same style. Left coast has theirs on sale for $1.50.

Hard to beat buck 50

Heck for those prices buy some and give them a try. Beat the heck out of a flippy IMO
