Title: Windsor speed tip
Post by: jmester on March 20, 2016, 08:17:26 pm
I have a good Windsor speed tip bar. It has 3 holes for the tip rivets. Will all the 3 hole bar tips fit. Like .325/3/8/.404. Seems like a nice bar. But the the tip is loose for the body and I don't have any rivets to fix it.

Check into the carlton speed tips if it is one of the newer last run windsor bars.  The older windsor tips were different if I remember right.

I have some bars outside I could take pics if needed later.

You just needing rivets? I have a bunch but dont what what tips they even go to.   I think there may be a size listed on them.

The second pic is not there. The bar only has 3 holes in it the hold the nose on. The tip only takes 1 rivet to hold it on. Not sure what pitch it is as 3/8 lo pro .325/ 3/8 .404 does not fit the tip right. I can post a pic tomorrow of what I have. I am pretty sure it is .058 gauge witch I will have to get resized for what chain I run. Thinking of getting a new tip and rivets so I can make it what ever I want.

Plus I can not find a chain that fits the nose right. Maybe that is why someone pulled the rivet out of a brand new bar. Seems that the sprocket was not made right as the teeth spacing is not right.

I guess as long as it is an SRA tip it will fit the body of the bar.

Looking at some .404 tips on the bay. Most are missing all the rivets or missing at least one. Does any one know if the new sta or 5 rivet bar tips use the same rivets as the 3 rivet bars? Going to have scarr52 grind the rails to .063 think it will be a sweet little bar when it is done.

measure up the holes and find one that fits. After peening file the heads flush.

Thanks,
Got one on eBay that says it has the rivets. If they are not there I will measure them and get some.

No not really. But I am having fun and it is a cool looking bar. I have been given free saws and had a whole lot more money in it then I will in this bar. Thank you

Generally, that will depend on the teeth count (diameter) of the tips, compared to the width/profile of the bar body - like a 12T .325 and an 11T 3/8 fitting the same, as will a 10T .325 and a 9T 3/8, etc.
Which options are available will vary with brand and model of bars, and I don't know how it is with the Speed Tips.

I think that tip in your pic is .325 pitch.  I have a bunch of those old 3-rivet Windsor tips in 3/8" pitch (rivets too).   I'll send you some rivets and/or a 3/8" pitch tip for your bar if you can use it.  What mount is your bar?  I have several 3-rivet Windsor bars (with some of them branded Homelite, Poulan, and McCulloch).

The 5-rivet Windsor/Carlton tips have a very different profile, with no interchange.  Dunno why Windsor did that.  The rivets do interchange however.

The 3-rivet 'mini pro' tips are yet another different animal.  They look like the little GB tips.  Don't know if there's interchange between those.  I don't have any GB's handy to check.  I do have some old mini-pro bars.

Just to throw this out there for whoever.......

I'll trade 3/8" pitch 3-rivet tips for .404 pitch 3-rivet Windsor tips.
