Title: replace flywheel on Makita DCS6421
Post by: labdon on July 17, 2016, 05:58:51 pm
I removed the flywheel so I could replace the coil. I installed the new flywheel. However the flywheel came loose and sheared off the key cast into the flywheel. I installed a second flywheel and used Loctite 242. This second flywheel also came loose and sheared the key. Any suggestions on how to keep this flywheel in place? Thanks

It should be a taper fit. I use a rubber mallet to help seat the flywheel. Make sure you support the crankshaft on the pto to help prevent any side to side movement. Make sure that you torque the nut. Not sure what dolmar has for the torque spec but most stihls that size are around 25 ft lbs or 33nm. Hope this helps you as flywheels are expensive.

be sure your mounting surfaces are clean and free of any oil. they are taper fit and its that taper that locks the flywheel in place more than the nut
