Title: chainsaw carry case
Post by: TedB. on August 15, 2016, 09:22:07 pm
I wanted to get my "new" Craftsman /Poulan 3.7 18" saw into a case so I could keep it behind the seat in my truck.I looked at all kinds of plastic cases on Ebay, but this saw is too high to fit in without hacking up the top cover, and I didn't want to do that.I ended up making a case that looks like a Husqvarna power-box out of 1x12 pine, I glued/screwed all the joints, and put steel corner braces inside all four corners, gave it 2 coats of maple Minwax stain and clear-coated it. I built in a good size shelf in the back wall that sticks out over the rear handle of the saw, I put my sharpening stuff in that, I used 3 plastic ends of welding rod tubes which are about 2x3 1/2", one mounted on the floor of the box to hold  a bottle of chain oil, and the other 2 as small shelves for an extra chain and spark plug, rags etc., one on either side of the front handle, screwed to the wall of the box.It sounds big, but it's just big enough to fit the saw in, had to carve out a couple of channels in the top, and both sides for the front handle and hand guard to fit into, to keep it as small as possible. Its a little bit heavy, but not that bad.One of my wife's empty dish detergent bottles works out great to hold the bar oil, fits snug in the holder and doesn't tip over or move around, holds about 15 oz. of oil.The saw slides in sideways with the bar & scabbard sticking out the front.I know I should have just posted pictures, but I don't know how to do that. This isn't anything fancy, but does work out good.

Yep I would have liked to seen a pic of that.    I have a number of those saws.

Thanks, I did take pics of it but on my phone, I have no idea how to post them here.Me and computers don't get along at all! I could email the pictures if you'd like to see them. This is a nice running saw, I like it better than the others I have. Thanks again, Ted.
