Title: Jonsered 2171 or Husky 371
Post by: Cut4fun . on December 23, 2011, 01:56:38 pm
What would you prefer? Jonsered 2171 or a Husky 371 with high top and clamp style intake?

Have a trade offer for my 2171 for a 371. I just dont know if I want a 371 with new seals, carb rebuild etc. I know my 2171 is solid and ready to go.

He likes red saws and not fond of the orange mixing in with his red ones. Me I dont care one way or another.

I do like the jonsereds but i prefer the 371 for parts and the HD filter. I know you was looking for jred parts a while back. Its kinda a Beyotch. :-\

Hard to prefer either for me as they are so much alike. I've got a couple of each. Some guys are pretty hung up on the handle angle of one or the other. I go back and forth between Jonnys and Huskys all the time and never really notice it.

Trade wise, why trade a known quanity for an unknown one? Plus you should have at least one Red on the roster.  :D

Finding used parts will always favor the Husky, as it outsells the Jonny 10 to 1; even in an area like mine where Jonsered still has some market presence. In some areas Jonsered is practically non existent, making it almost impossible to fnd use parts.

I prefer running the 2171. Looking for parts is easier for husky for sure.

Oh I did keep the 2171. http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/jonsered/jonsered-2171-2165-2071-questions/   I was thinking like Spike said. I know mine is good.

Can you put the handle from a red saw onto and orange saw?

Or is the angle of the mount on the chain side different?

IF you put the red tank on orange saw you can put jonsered handle. If you put a orange tank on red saw you can run husky handle.

Thanks.

So there is a difference in the angle and position of the mounts.

The difference is in the actual tank castings. The distance between the two side handle bolt holes on the Jonny is about a half inch wider apart than the Husky. So, the Jonny handle only fits the Jonny tank and the Husky handle will only fit the Husky tank.

However the mounts and everything else are the same. So, you could put a Husky tank and handle on a Jonsered and vice versa. Or build an entire "Red" saw on an "orange" crankcase.

Cut4Fun had a crossed up Jonsered/Husky at one time. I think he still has the same chainsaw but it is all one color now.
