I was having trouble with the carburator on my chainsaw (even after cleaning it and blowing it out, the saw would bog down when pulling the trigger), so I ordered a replacement (aftermarket) carb.
Now, the saw starts and runs, but even with the idle adjustment backed all the way out, it is revving like crazy, which causes the chain to spin. I backed the low needle out, because I thought it might be too lean, but, even once it started sputtering and blowing smoke from being too rich, the RPMs were still too high.
Did I get a faulty carb? Or is there something else I can do?
Just for full disclosure, I also pulled the muffler off and ensured that the screen wasn't plugged up.

Sounds like a air leak to me.
Did you put in a new rebuild kit in the old carb or at least new pump and metering diaphragms? Before trying the new carb.

No. The Carb rebuild kits were almost as much as a new Carb, so I just bought the new Carb.

I'm going to get a carb kit for the old carb and see if that solves the issue. I should have just done that in the first place, but the local parts shop had the new carbs for $15 and the rebuild kits were $8. I figured for $5 more, just replacing the whole carb was worth the money.

before anything else loosen carb and reseat it on intake gasket. might want to take a look at intake gasket. if it sucks air at intake will run to fast.

Well, it looks like I cranked down the nuts too tight at some point, when removing and reinstalling the carbs. The plastic adapter spacer between the carb and intake is ****. <- Why is there a filter on the word "c r a c k e d"???
I guess I have to order a new one of those. :-[
That is probably where the extra air was being sucked in.
I'm actually considering buying a new saw at this point. Menards has a clearance sale on a 42CC Poulan Predator.

I dont know why C racked is filtered either. Been trying to figure it out myself. Didnt used to be. But I am to puter stupid to figure it out as it isnt a banned word.

you could get a new saw or you could walk through a yard sale or such and pick up a low compression wood shark for 5 bucks.

I got a nice craftsman 3.0 49cc metal cased saw. Poulan 3000 basically with bare bore, chrome piston. Prob more saw then he needs though.

I ordered the adapter spacer from the local repair shop. $2.99 for the spacer and $4 for the gaskets.

$116 shipped. I only need a saw, typically, for simple yard work, and the occasional tree fell for firewood. If I can get the old saw repaired and working, again, I will just sell it. I think I might throw a 14" bar on the new saw. 18" is longer that I will, likely, need.

looks like a good deal. most likely aluminum cylinder saw so be sure to use non ethanol fresh gas with good name brand 2 cycle oil. your new saw may need a half turn or so out on the H screw as some are set lean from factory. make sure it runs rich enough as that is the life of your saw. with a little care they last very well.

Like said check the tune from get go.
Also the fuel line is usually crap in these oem. So after a year pay attention.

@ cut4fun that runny snot fuel line you found was worst thing I have seen. disgusting
