not much to look at, just a test setup for the sensor/software.

have to think that signal should look like a heartbeat, this does not.

cannot turn off the internal mic on the laptop until the splitter comes in the mail.

ear bud headphone with back towards magnet.... on one channel in the pic.  plugged close so as not to pick up sound.

previously tried a mic condensor, not any better.

previously tried bare end wires too, very close together.....  seemed to work better. 

tried a ceramic magnet for trigger, then tried rare earth magnets which are the ones in the pics.  ceramic was better.  want to try an iron magnet, but don't have a good one to use, need to get one.

OK, I see what you are doing.  There isn't much of a core to those ear buds which is likely why the signal is so low.  I'll have to look at how they're made.

well so far no go.

splitter came in the mail yesterday.  it did make the internal mic in the laptop finally shut off, but that is about it.

signal is still noisy, making rpms jump all over the place.

tried downloading updated sound drivers for the laptop.  no difference.

then tried downloading a new bios for the laptop.  even then, still no go.

it is getting an rpm signal but the backround noise is just too much.

got it to work.  hahaha.  signal clean.

first few picks is the new setup that works.

next are random of what the software can do.  it can do more sensors as well, but i do not have any more to use right away.

do not think that this setup would be great with the sensor used for motors because it still picks up ambient noise from the surroundings.

taped end of mic to try to somewhat deaden ambient noise.  coil pickup, abs, ignition pickup or some other pickup would probably work ...but i do not have any to try as of yet.

lathe spins at 150.  hahaha.
