Title: New air filters 550 545 562
Post by: Cut4fun . on April 20, 2017, 01:19:58 pm
Sharing this info I just read from spike60

4th filter has recently been introduced for both the 550 and 562. They are 25 micron nylon filters and are orange in color, to tell them apart from the others. The flock filters are about 35 micron and the other 2 nylon filters are 44, (yellow), and 80, (black). The 80 is strictly a winter filter.

Thanks for the heads up on the 550XP orange air filter.
I got a brand new 31 week of 2016  550 on my bench here, thats only got a tank of fuel through it.
These are the filters that came with it, nylon and flock.

Here's a couple of more pics of my new 550XP.
I bought it last week for a good paying cottage lot clearing contract.
Ordered a new MS261CM originally from my Husky/Stihl dealer but didn't come in on time so I bought this 550.
I already have a older 550, NE346, OE 372, 395 and a 562 but with these kind of jobs I need lots of spares.
Ended up I used only my 562 and for the bigger wood the 372.
Burnt less then a tank of fuel through the 550 because it was too embarrassing to run. Way too cold blooded popping and farting while warming up, so just put it back in the truck and grabbed the 562.
New 550 looks like a beautiful little saw with the upgraded vented cover and flippy caps. H25 NK .325 chain is a perfect match too.
The NE MS261CM did come in so I guess I'll have to go down to the dealer and pick it up. First new Stihl for me since my MS200T I bought about 15 years ago.

My solo operated tree service saw stable will have to be culled. Get rid of the stragglers and just run Husqvarna T536 LiXP,  338XPT,  550XP,  562XP,  Stihl MS261CM.
Along with the old 346 also get rid of the OE372XP, 395XP and replace them either with the MS462C or the 572XP.

Pics of the new 550XP with winter preheater kit and 16" H25 NK .325
Still have to replace its dog with a smooth aluminium bumper I have for it.

One more pic here with the new 550XP sporting a smooth aluminum bumper replacing its factory installed steel dog.
Might even save an ounce  he he  :D
All my 50cc saws I run no dogs just smooth bumpers, perfect for limbing and clearing under brush.

Yours is the first 550 pic I have seen with the updated 2 shoe clutch, more like the 346 clutch.  The 550 and I think 545 I had both had the early 3 show clutch.

Here are some changed parts with the old and new numbers:

Inner clutch hub  574 23 61-01    577 51 82-01

Drum  575 26 10-01  575 26 10-03

Muffler  523 05 26-01  523 05 26-02

Coil  577 79 07-01  581 72 36-01

Yes same 2 shoe clutch as my 346 as I have the 2 prong puller for the 346.
Yesterday I made a few cuts with the new 550 in some 10x10" spruce finishing off its first tank of fuel. Runs totally different now, no long erratic popping warm up now. Processor must have set its self.
550 owner manual no longer says to run them out of the box at WOT for the first 5 minutes. Just run them normally.

Stopped in at my Husky Stihl dealer yesterday and took a close look at the MS261CM II that I ordered last week and  which came in a few hours after I bought the 550 and was already on the road to my clearing job.

This is the first new series 261 I've seen, looks just like a mini MS462. I need another 50cc like I need a hole in the head. My FIL gave my 346 back as it just sat on his shelf for the last few years. Also got one of the older 550s from the winter festival competition.

But I really like the looks of the 261, the 241  I have no interest after looking at it.
Saws aren't  cheap here in Canada. 550 is $800 CAD 261 is $759.

Just have to wait a few days into June to buy the 261. I buy all my stuff on Mastercard to collect my bonus Air Miles.
I just don't want the 550 and 261 on the same bill as that would definitely raise a red flag to my wife :D hehehe.

Picked up the MS261CM today. Even got the 63PS MS261 Tuning Kit out ready to replace the .325 23RS  :D
The 550 I'm leaving the NK .325 H25 b/c on it.
Will be fun to put lots of hours on the two and make some comparisons.  Now to cull my herd of older saws. ;D
Real nice pic of the two together here....
