Title: Husky 281xp wont start any ideas?
Post by: huskyman on January 04, 2012, 09:14:13 pm
Hello everyone I just purchased a older Husqvarna 281xp. I took it home and flushed the tank pulled the carb and cleaned it out, put a new plug into it. The saw has good compression and clean fuel, I checked and it has spark, the spark arrestor  appears unplugged and I am getting fuel to the spark plug as it is wet when pulled. I took the high and low jets all the way in and backed them out 1 turn each. Any ideas? I'm stumped! All help would be very appreciated. ???

Most likely the thing is flooded from the carb innards getting stiff as a board  from old age . Thypical of an old saw BTW .

try rebuilding the carb and give that a try. if that don't fix it then install some new carnk seals and if that don't fix it buy a new carb like i done on my MS250 stihl

Watch those  seals now .If after a period of run time it gets to leaning out that's usually the problem .Fact I have a 281 in the shed that needs seals and I'll be darned if I remember where I put them .Not a big deal as they are about 10 bucks a pop not like those 20 dollar Stihl seals .

Now on some Huskeys that seal has to slip over a square cut shoulder and where a lot of people make an error in instaling  them and soon after the new seals fail .

It's a simple trick of using a small plastic tube to kind of "shoe spoon " the seal over the shoulder .When I get the time and motivation I'll do a few pics of how to do it .--mean while I either have to find them or buy new ones .Forgetfull minds cause tired feet .
