Oh boy I have notes buried somewhere on this saw.
Summer of 1984 I spent 10 days touring in Washington state and Oregon.
Couple days at a timber show in Estacada, Oregon staying at world hot saw champ Gary Walrath's place. Then 4 days at Sam Madsen's place in Centralia WA.
The 72cc 038 Magnum wasn't introduced until the next year in '85. But Madsens had the 038 Super II in stock and he sold me a Super II p/c with a full woods port with 4 finger ports and milled cylinder base thrown in. I put that p/c on my old 61cc 1980 038AV .
Madsens distributor NW Stihl in Chehalis a town next door had all kinds of marketing strategy for their local  timber faller market with different model badges.
I'm  not sure which came first the "Super Pro" or "Super II" . But the 038 had a niche to fill back in the early part of the 1980's . The 056Mag II was the poplar top dog saw but a smaller unit was needed for 2nd growth and the 048 wasn't much lighter than the 056.
From 1980 to 1985 the 038 stepped up from 61cc to 72. But by a year later in 1986 the newly introduced 064AV at 85cc 14.1 lbs put the 038Mag into farm boss territory.
Then to top things off for Stihl the 084 was also introduced with the 064 in '86 to take away the market from the 100cc Husqvarna's.
