Title: Stihl MS250 dangling wire problem
Post by: mbg530 on May 22, 2017, 01:29:33 pm
I've had my Stihl MS250 for years and it's worked fine.  I decided to clean the air filter (probably for 2nd or 3rd time which required removing the cover).  Somehow when I put the cover back on I disconnected a wire and I can't see where to connect it.  With the wire disconnected the chainsaw will run but will not turn off the way it should, by flipping up the choke switch to "Off".  Instead I have to choke it all the way and it stops.  See attached picture.  Can someone tell me where that wire with the connector should go?
Thanks.

With the air cover off move the control lever through its range of movement from stop to choke.

There is a leaf spring that rides across the top of the choke - stop mechanism.

The loose wire plugs into the left end of the mechanism whereas the leaf spring will make contact with the side of the connector when the lever is in the stop position. When in the stop position the side of the wire connector makes contact with the bottom of the leaf spring and shorts out the magneto electrically and killing the ignition.

It is not unusual for this wire to become disconnected when cleaning out the air cleaner chamber area.
