Title: Hello.. I’m an idiot. Please, somebody, tell me I didn’t break my chainsaw.
Post by: RAWz on December 06, 2017, 10:32:47 am
Hello..
I’m Rory, and I’m an idiot.

I mistakenly used ‘chain oil’ (apparently) in the fuel mix on my MS181 chainsaw, and it’s not started since.. I thought it was the same stuff that comes in the little sachets.

I’ve emptied all the fuel out and put in clean, correctly mixed fuel. Removed the spark plug (which was black) and cleaned it up using emery paper.. it did sound like it was going to start, and then suddenly nothing, so I checked for a spark via the spark plug and there’s no spark (as far as I can see).

Did I break my chainsaw?

I’ve literally used it 3 times since I got it a couple of years ago. My wife’s gunna kill me if I’ve broken it.. she’ll probably cuff me round the head too!

Thank you..
Rory (Idiot husband).

I have had them in like this before. Needed to pull carb clean bar oil out.  Clean the bar oil out of the fuel line. Fuel filter needed replaced buy new one. Spark plug could use a new one too. JMO

Did it actually run with the bar oil in mix for any amount of time?

Hello cut4fun..
thanks for your reply 👍🏻

It never started after I messed up with chain oil.. I’ll grab a new fuel filter and spark plug tomorrow hopefully. Is cleaning the carb etc. a job I could do myself?

Thanks again..

You saying you never pulled it over trying to start it to draw the bar oil into the carb?

IMO what I have seen was cleaning the fuel line and replacing fuel filter was the main thing on the ones I done.

You can try just the fuel line cleaning and replace filter first.

Thanks mate..
I’m going to get new fuel and air filters and a new spark plug tomorrow - hopefully it won’t be too much of an arse to fix.

Thanks for your help so far man.. I’ll let you know how I get on.. or don’t.

You just mixed bar oil with your gas right?  I get guys that pour the bar oil in the mix tank 100%.  Mix in the bar oil tank.  Then try and start. That makes a mess to clean.

But the mix in the oil tank sure cleans that one up.  :D
