I picked one of these up the other night for $10.00 with a scored piston.
The cylinder cleaned up real well and I've opened it up a bit.
This seems like a pretty good saw for a Poulan of that era and I was wondering what, if anything you folks knew about it?
I might try to make this a truck/trim saw if it works out well.

I dont see why it wouldn't make a good trim , truck , loaner saw.
Lot easier to work on then those dang bad designed stihl homeowner saws IMO.

I got this saw ported and back together and all I can say is.....WOW!
This is really a strong little saw for its size.
I'm having trouble getting it to oil but I think I have figured out that it is the rubber grommet/ pickup tube leaking.
I put one from a 142 Husky (a MUCH better design) in and it works but the pickup tube is pointed the wrong direction and won't pick up but about half of the oil level.

I'm not exactly certain what this one is but it runs okay for about a minute .Actually I think I've got carb problems .
That oiling problem might be due to the four mounting bolts that hold the engine to the bottom assembley had either backed off or stripped out . If that happens the torque of the engine will disengage the oil pump which is in the lower assembley with the drive gear which is on the engine .The pot licker looks likes it's oiling but then when you get in a tough cut it quits and about drove me bonkers until I figured it out .
The fix was drilling out the mounting holes in the bottom assembley out to 1/4" and retapping the bottom threaded mounting holes to 1/4" -20 in the engine and using long socket head grade 8 cap screws .
The engine has been souped .Oils great runs lousely but good for about a minute .I'll get-er-done some day .
