Title: Jonsered 2054 Rebuild
Post by: LutherDLG on February 25, 2018, 06:08:26 pm
Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Looking for a little help with an older Jonsered saw and thought this would be the place to go.

I recently bought an old 1998 Jonsered 2054 Turbo and have been trying to bring it back to life. Compression seems good on the saw and after rebuilding the carb, it runs like a top. However, I can't get it to oil at the bar for the life of me. I've taken everything apart and cleaned every tube, taken the oil pump apart and cleaned it, etc., and I've confirmed that oil flows to the pump - it just won't pump to the bar. I've also tried replacing the the pump with no results. All I can think of at this point is that the worm gear that drive the pump must be stripped.

Unfortunately, on this saw it looks like the worm gear is inside the crank case seals. I've rebuilt outboards, car motors, etc. but I've never worked on a chainsaw before, so I'm just looking for a little direction if anyone's worked on one of these saws before. Does anyone know if I can replace the worm gear without removing the crank case seals?

If I do need to remove the seals, I'm thinking that I might as well take the top end apart, check if the piston needs replacing, etc. Before I tear it down, I just want to make sure I don't mess anything up along the way. For example, do I need to mark anything on the flywheel to preserve ignition timing when I put it back together?

Thanks in advance everyone! Attached a couple pictures for reference.

Thanks for that!

I guess what I'm really wondering is if I can somehow access the worm gear on the crank shaft without tearing the saw apart all the way down to the crank. I would have to remove the oil seal - you can see from the diagram that the worm gear sits on the inside side of the oil seal. But if I removed that oil seal, I'm wondering if I could somehow remove and replace the worm gear.

Thanks for the help!

I am having the Exact same problem with the same saw. Did you ever figure out how to replace the worm gear? Where did you buy it?
