Title: Kobalt 40v
Post by: Cut4fun . on July 17, 2018, 11:42:21 am
Kobalt 40-volt Lithium Ion 8-in Cordless Electric Pole Saw (Battery Included). Anyone got any time behind this?

My dad is wanting a battery pole saw for clearing old logging roads etc up on the hills.

Needs to be pretty light and wants to have about 12' reach with him holding it.  I suggested a manual pole saw but he said way to many to clear for that. So suggested gas echo like I had. Got to heavy as he checked into it.

Not a pole saw but I did put a pole saw bar I used to run on my old HT 75 pole saw. HT 75 now runs a power broom which is the best thing I did with the HT75.
So I put the 16" .043 Stihl bar on my Husky T536 Li Xp saw. Had to redrill a new oiler hole and I found a good cutting new .043 chain. A Oregon  90PX. Cuts better then the Stihl 71 and 61 PM I was using earlier in 10".
Pic here shows the 536 with the 16" cutting up some poplars on the ground. Had to fell 6 trees over top a chain link fence.
Cuts good.

Dad said he is loving this polesaw for the limbs along the lanes and ole logging roads he is doing.  Light and fast cutting even to him at his age.

He said still going strong and has yet to wear a battery out doing the trim cuttings.  Said still likes everything about it except for one thing he noticed. Seems there is a vent hole in the top of bar oil tank cap. Said it seems to leak.

If that is it. I think I have a redneck fix for that. duckbill set up might work.

Cuts great and the angled head is a plus.

Even though it is listed as light weight the cutting end is where most of the weight s so still gets heavy lifting and holding for cuts.

Only leaks out of the cap bar oil hole with left in a position to do so for a long time.  Not really a issue IMO.

Thought of dad when I seen this a like new used 40v Kolbalt chainsaw yesterday while down in Marion. Didnt come with battery so hope it works.

Dad already has the 40v pole saw and loves it so figured it would make a good gift. Plus a back up to the easy start 180 trim saw I gave him before. So when it is down again for work so he dont have to try and use the pole saw to try finish cutting around the land.

Most of the little cooling fins were knocked off when it came loose. I pulled the rest to check it out closer.

Dang, looks like a motor and fan replacement needed. That guy had to know something was up when it smoked.
