Title: 066 Stihl pre-production test saw-short history
Post by: trappermike on January 05, 2019, 06:59:31 pm
In the early 90's I started a new job on the West Coast for a big Stihl dealer who sold a lot of saws,he had contracts with large logging companies and sold a lot of new Stihls, mainly 064's and some Mag2's. Then Stihl sent him a new pre-production 066 to test. But just after that Stihl granted a dealership to someone in a nearby town, the boss was enraged,"Treason",and in a fit of anger he threw the 066 test saw on the ground and drove over it in his truck, then he was gonna send it back in a box to show his displeasure. That's when I went to work for him,I saw the flattened 066,pried it apart and found the cylinder was ok except a couple small fins broke off,so I asked him if I could have it.Still fuming he said fine,so I ported it and sold the P and C for $200,easy money,a 92cc piston and cylinder before the 066 was sold. Then I packed the rest in a box and sent it back to Stihl, never heard a word about it after.
