I did found a Homelite 750 recently here in Belgium. Big homies are very rear over here so wanted to add this one to the collection.
I did have good compression still and fired, so I thouht it might be a runner soon. The saw looked still very decent.
After I took it apart, I noticed however the piston has scoring marks ..... :o
the verdict :
Looks like several chrome chips in the cylinder have peeled off, hence the piston hung up, but quite mildly. The thin rings are still even free.
But the cylinder looks toast. What are the chances to find a good cylinder ? Or has anyone experience with the cost of rechroming, if possible at all.
I need also a new intake boot (with spring) and might replace the crankshaft seals.
Any recommendations/input is welcome.

Chances are you won't run it that often .If you clean it up and run a heavier oil mix you most likely will never have a problem.The seals most likely are just generic SAE sized so that shouldn't be a problem .The boot depending on how bad it is might be repaired using a fuel resistant RTV such as Loc-tite 5900 .
For that matter large displacement Homelites are rather rare any where which is not saying you can not find the parts but more than likely they will be costly .

Spending money to get a saw going and put her on the shelf afterwards is not very tempting, I know. but the technician in me just wants to hear it roaring again.
the boot was no longer there so I definately need one for running it.
I can clean up to piston but am afraid of running this cylinder again.
can we upload pics here ?
