Looks like it will still be carbureted. Which is nice. I wonder if they worked on the max rpm. Which seems one of the biggest complaints on the 880.

Interesting what they have going on with the top of the cylinder

Germany 881 is official now in this dealer newsletter.
Stihl says that the 880 is sold out and that the successor will appear in autumn. 881 is mostly an evolution of the 880. Just like they did with the 460 to 461. Same bore and stroke like the 880 but with front fed transfers, added stratos -like a beefed up 462- and updated filter.

Tree guy in UK and owner of stihl 881. = I’m no mechanic, I just use big saws everyday for cutting big wood, and  I’m really quite taken by this saw. It’s very very different to an 880.
An 880 felt like an engine with handles on, the 881 is like the 500i/661 on steroids.
After extensive testing, the only recommendation I could make, was a bit of plastic near the throttle was a “bit sharp”.
Frankly it’s the best saw I’ve ever used.

What a UK user says about the stihl 881. 880 top, 661 middle, 881 bottom. = There’s a big difference in the 881 to the 880.
I’d pick up a 661 over an 880 everyday for felling or cross cutting.
But over 30” I go straight for the 881 now.

Some info from a guy from Norway running the 400 881. 70" plus bar on 881 === I have used the 400 and it is a stonking saw. Really aggressive and pretty light. I thought it was more of a replacement to the 362. A little bit heavier but considerably more poke.
Also used the 500i and the 881. The 500 has been out a while in Norway, seems a good saw but I wonder how long it would last in a logging scenario.
The 881 we used for a bit of milling. Seems to be a good saw but hard to tell what it would be like. We had a 70+” bar on it and a Panther chainsaw mill. It was pretty heavy.

OH dealers that I visit have plenty. Then again the stihl dealers here are like dollar stores on every corner anymore.

500's 400's 661's etc etc

Got an 881. Friday afternoon. Like the looks of it. Set back cylinder moves the weight back towards the rear handle. Think with the right bar it should be pretty balanced.[attachimg=1]

Muffler has a decent sized outlet hole. Should be able to get some time on it tomorrow or Tuesday. That is all i got at the moment. Has a similar intake to a 201t. Held on by 4 screws. Smaller square in the middle. And 2 longer rectangles above and to the sides of the middle intake.

Very nice pics and look inside.

I just did the same with  3/8 8T on the G888 later MS880 copy with 2 piece muffler. Thanks goodness not that early clip on cast muffler crap.

I agree on muffler. 2 piece gives more flexibility on a muffler mod. I ran 3/8 chain on my 780. I didn't care for it that much.
How do you like the g888

Milling guys wanted me to go 3/8 for the demo saw. Plus I had always ran 3/8 on the 084's.

IMO better then that 088 I tuned for a guy with 41" on it after rebuilding carb etc.  That ES bar was like a wet noodle using it.

Your post reminded me to order more of those outerwears for the HD2
