I have this snow blower 4 cycle that I got for free about 3 years ago. I fixed it and used it a couple of times and then I stuck it in a shed and it sat for over a year with out being started. Today we go 14 inches of snow so I needed to clean the sidewalks at the house in town and I went to the shed. I took off the gas cap and smelled and it did not smell good but I did notice the tank was empty. So I filled it up and it started on the second pull. The reason I believe is because I only run non ethanol fuel which will not attract water and corrode the carburetor. I have replaced a lot carbs on mowers and such and the biggest problem was water corrosion. Thought I would pass it along.

I was always amazed that my two cycle Toro Snow Throwers would start on the first or second pull after a year. They did not even have an air filter! My four cycle Toro Snow Thrower also starts very reliably ( but I like the two cycle ones better).. Maybe chainsaws are more finicky due to the small size ?
I also use ethanol free gas in my snow thrower, and add some StaBil to the fuel container that I use, because the gas can sit around for a few months.

I learned to not let ethanol gas set in my Gen after running dry. It is never really dry inside the carb.
It sets with E-free now just like the boat.

I never realized how much water can be attracted by ethanol until I started working on these carbs for small engines like lawn mowers and such. The corrosion is terrible.

I've got two generators that always manage to start after sitting a long while .They do puff nasty fumes for a bit then settle right down .I also have a Toro "snow pup " two cycle that was given to me I haven't used for a while because my leaf blower the last few years has been enough .The Toro has a plug in 120 volt starter .So far it's never failed to start .
My roto tiller sits outside with a garbage can over the engine .The only time since I've had over 25-30 years it didn't start the coil was bad .I dug through my junk until I found a good one and that was that .

I've had excellent luck with premium fuel and Star-tron additive. I run the combo in all my outdoor equipment and most recently the snowblower started on first pull after sitting for about a year. YMMV

A couple years ago I found a 12 HP two stage blower for cheap because the guy was moving to Florida .Gave it to my son then he moved to Louisville and now it's in my shop .I did the Stabil thing to the gas .It's got a plug in 120 volt starter .That thing will really blow the snow but it's been some time since we've had any to amount to anything which doesn't disappoint me .The novelty of that left me decades ago .

If you watch this you will see stabilizer dont really help with ethanol gas. Stabilizer with ethonal gas still let corrosion happen. Look at the E-free, with and without.

I think of fuel stabilizer as preventing (or retarding) separation or degrading of the fuel components, not for preventing ethanol damage.
All fuel stabilizers the same? Stabil? Seafoam? . . . .
