Hey yall, first post here. I have a 2011 Husky 357xp, the one with the zama carb and the replaced intake. I have been having problems with it running hot and it might be sucking air or running lean. Im still hunting down the problem. Anyways i pulled it apart and took a look at the piston and it looked kinda iffy. It has some carbon deposots on one side and some signs of overheating. but the other side looks good. I was wondering if yall could take a look and let me know if I should replace it or not. I use the saw for chainsaw carving and have had it since it was new.

JMO looks good to me.
I would clean the ring groove and new ring.
If you have plastic intake clamp toss that set up. They warp. Update the partation and to metal intake clamp.
If you have the auto decomp early ones. They are known to have troubles. Plug off one end and put regular decomp in other.
You dont happen to have a CAT muffler on it do ya. = EPA

So my original 357xp bought in 07 had the plastic clamp and the walbro carb, this one is the updated model with the zama carb and metal clamp, also i believe they mad some adjustments to the intake shroud for fit. Additionally, it does have the manual decompression switch. Not sure about the muffler or how to tell if it is a cat muffler looks fairly standard. Just did some digging around and it seems like that can cause it to run hot so maybe that was my issue. I will do some more reasearch on it and let you know. Thanks.

Looks like its the non epa model without a cat.

The cast muffler says “CAT” in the part number on top. There may be the “jungle” style muffler which just has an exit port in the front corner and what looks like a small pipe. There was also a high flow muffler used on later saws with a larger discharge port.
The piston looks fine. Still has machine marks on it. If the ring gap is getting out of spec you could re ring it, but I would just use the ring you have if it isn’t heavily worn.
With ethanol fuel, the rubber seals on the bearings start to get hard and leak. If you’re suspecting an air leak, I’d check the bearing seals.
