Ethan is having a chain build off here local. I forgot about this place and letting folks know. He posted back on the CRG back in March. Sorry about that.
But I recalled Roger did some nice chain. So ask Ethan if I should post here too since I know you dont do FB.

I am hosting a chain build off, anyone is welcome.
Chains will be 60dl 3/8 .050 ran on a woods ported 6100, in aspen (subject to change, will confirm tomorrow). Wood will be an 8x8, there are no rules, just send a chain and see how you do! Saw will be ran by a third party, who is not entering a chain, so there will be no bias. All for fun! 7T rim
3 cuts, slowest removed, remaining two averaged.
I must have the chains by April 23, they will be tested the 24th.
Include $8 to have chain shipped back.
Anything goes. No restrictions.

@3000 FPS he lives just south of me like 20mins. I have mailing address if needed or can let me know and will get to him.

Let me think about it. Sounds like fun during this virus crap. I would need to order a new chain too.

You want me to check if I have a used 60dl in oregon for ya? I know I have new loops of stihl RS but they are little heavier being they are 050 but 063 at top of drive links. Oregon 050 is 058 at tops.
The race portion of the gtg is up in the air now. We got put on stay at home till May 1st.
Would think Ethan and Shawn could still do the chain testing.
-
I will check and see what I have for chains. No worrys.
-
I have been working on my chain today and made some pretty good progress. I am using some different techniques this time to accomplish the same task that was faster. Hopefully a couple more days of work and a few test cuts and it will be ready to ship.
-
Finished of the chain today. Made a couple of test cuts and it is nice and smooth in the cut. So we will see how it does.
-
Seen pics. Check new info.
Good Luck.
Good operator will be running the saw.
-
Pics of the cants I seen. Some of them look like poplar.
-
I ran my test cuts in cottonwood so it should be similar to Poplar.

Shawn had a racing gtg planned. But cv19 happened.

It's all cottonwood.

It's all cottonwood.
Fooled me. Some looked like poplar with that green tint center.
Thanks for info

Well these chains should cut through that stuff like a hot knife through butter. Maybe could have gone a little more aggressive on the raker height.
-
I seen your chain after I picked up the cants. Plenty of aggression IMO. ;). Looked real nice

Ok and thanks.

Race day! Gonna have 2 timers and video. Videos will be official timed thru a app probably at a later date, but stop watch times should be posted today. Thanks to all that sent a entry.
-
Alright it should be fun.
-
Times Shawn posted yesterday evening. 2 timers sheets. If I recall right, official times will be done with a app and videos.
-
I don't know who is who on the list, but I remember that Rogers and Ethans did real good.
-
After checking out that timing app. I feel for Dave having to break all of that down.
App is amazing though. Just got to be a tech guy into such new stuff.
-
Looks like there was some pretty fast chains in there. So there was a total of 26 entry's from looking at the list. Not to bad of a turn out.
Sounds like the app will take some of the human error out of the process for accuracy. That is pretty neat.
-
2 timers list. so 13 chains including stock one

Ok I forgot there was two timers. Still to get 12 people is not to bad.
-
Per David Smith at CCC doing the official timing and video work. = final video with avg times, all the dead space is cut out

Took Dave's final times in video and saved to a pic.

Dave at CCC posted this over in chainsaw repair group. Congratulations to the winner Nate Blakeslee, he was letter K and turned in an average 1.6 sec cut time.
Username here Jred and uses real name in CRG.

That is some nice looking work.

The EXL - is that round ground chisel stock chain?

Yep
EXL replacing LGX. Just round work chain

That makes sense since it was one of the slower chains. I would be interested in seeing how a factory square ground chain does against all the race chains.
